At the start of this month, #E6 visited Oxford Wood Recycling (OWR) for their open day. Oxford Wood Recycling reuse wood recycled from our Global Innovation Centre in Harwell Science and Innovation Campus to produce various useful items, such as garden stakes, bug hotels, decorative structures, art and more, all accessible by the local community. 🍃 🌱 Learn more about our commitment to #sustainability here: https://lnkd.in/eKmgWv8P

The future of sanitation relies on the recycling of energy, nutrients, water, and carbon. The crisis of the ecology is causing water shortages and are damaging the sanitation systems with floods and droughts, which are putting humans at risk. Toilets are essential, but drinking water for flushing human waste is not sustainable and harms the soil, increases damaging greenhouse gasses, and makes nutrients really hard to recycle. This is more than waste management; it's about transforming our living spaces and the way we relate to our eco-system. Luna is our first step towards a new circular sanitation paradigm. Let’s talk about the future of regenerative design at Stockholm Furniture Fair, New Ventures, C:17:30 #livingoffthegrid #regenerativesanitation #regensan #regenerativedesign

HERADESIGN® Reconciles Economy with Ecology Another milestone for Knauf Ceiling Solutions! With the introduction five years ago of an advanced recycling system for our HERADESIGN® wood wool production line, we started recycling wood wool board remnants and recovering the magnesite-based binding agent as a secondary raw material. All of that without affecting the quality of the HERADESIGN® acoustic panels. The balance sheet after a successful five years is truly impressive: In 2022 alone, the system produced approximately 3,100 tons of secondary binder, the proportion of which in the HERADESIGN® ceiling panels is now around 30% with an upward trend. This initiative has effectively facilitated the transition to a circular economy, resulting in substantial reductions in CO2 emissions, improvements in the carbon footprint, and decreased reliance on primary raw materials. Just one of the steps we’re taking to create a circular and sustainable economy. https://lnkd.in/e3MnJpJw #KnaufCeilingSolutions #Ceilings #CradleToCradle #Sustainability #Environment #Certification

🌍 Transforming Plastic Waste into Sustainable Housing 🏠 This week, I had an enlightening experience meeting Othalo. They are not just building houses; they're leading a sustainable revolution in the construction industry! Here's what's groundbreaking about Othalo: 🔄 They recycle plastic waste, turning it into modular building blocks. 🌱 Construct eco-friendly houses that aren't just cost-effective, but also are a solution to the global plastic problem. ⏰ The efficiency of their approach? They can assemble a house in mere hours! 📣 Recently, they showcased a 3-bedroom, 50m^2 house costing less than USD 8,000 to UN Habitat. 🏢 Their innovative designs also include multi-story buildings (up to six floors) and immediate shelters for those in dire need, like refugees. 🔍 Importantly, they don't compromise on safety or comfort. Their products meet stringent European construction standards, ensuring optimal ventilation, temperature control, and fire resistance. A home is more than just four walls. It's a foundation for individuals to thrive, elevating both their personal lives and the greater community. 🎥 [Watch the video here] https://lnkd.in/dsv25Fdq Here's to sustainable solutions that are not only economically viable but also drive positive change for our planet. 🌿🌏 #SustainableHousing #RecycledPlastic #EcoFriendlyConstruction #PositiveChange

World Earth Day 2024! April has been a busy month for Northstone Materials. As we celebrate Earth Day on 22nd April, it is always worth reflecting on how far we have come and what we have planned to become a more sustainable and environmentally conscious organisation. 📅📈 Our sustainability strategy will address packaged products from our Roof Tile Plant facility over the next three years. Our key targets: 1. Innovate tile properties 🏗️ 2. Reduce carbon emissions 🏭 3. Reduce plastic packaging 🥤 We started our Tile Plant sustainability strategy in 2023 by installing 505 Solar PV panels. This generates enough electricity to power over 50 homes. That’s not all; we’ve been working with suppliers to increase recycled content in our tile packaging. ♻️ The momentum hasn’t stopped there! Armin Jamali, Associate Concrete Specialist, joined the Northstone team through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Queen’s University Belfast. Armin will help us deliver our strategy by developing low-carbon lite roof tiles, innovating tile properties, and working towards reduced overall packaging usage! We at Northstone are aligning our products and services with a sustainable economy to make every day Earth Day. 🌍🌱 #WorldEarthDay #WorldEarthDay2024 #sustainability #plasticreduction

Sustainability is not a tick-box exercise. Today we are celebrating #worldenvironmentday. As a leading specialist joinery manufacturer, Woodmarque Joinery Ltd works hard to promote #timber as a sustainable material to help reduce carbon emissions and encourage environmentally conscious practices in the construction sector. When sustainably sourced, timber is one of the most renewable resources on the planet, and we understand the importance of proper forest management and regrowth. The timber used in our specialist joinery products, fire door-sets and contract furniture comes from responsible sources. We strictly adhere to the Forest Stewardship Council FSC-STD-40-004 and FSC-STD-50-001 standards, ensuring every piece of wood is sustainably harvested. At Woodmarque, we also prioritise energy efficiency, waste reduction and product durability. We conduct life cycle assessments and educate customers in our commitment to pursuing environmentally friendly practices and reducing our ecological impact. #generationrestoration #worldenvironmentday2024 #woodmarque #joinery #teamwoodmarque #fsc

🏗️ We often forget about this source of CO2 🏗️ Manufacturing materials like cement, steel and plastic account for 21% of ALL CO2 emissions! Look around. All the floors, walls, sidewalks, bridges. We need this infrastructure but at the same time, we cannot make it by emitting more CO2. Instead, we should rely on reusing waste that's already out there. That's why new materials like sugarcrete are necessary. Take a look at this brilliant invention made by University of East London, Grimshaw and Tate & Lyle Sugars. ⤵️ #architecture #sustainabledevelopment #sustainability #sustainablematerials
