Yesterday, we hosted an Open House to welcome our friends, partners, and supporters to El Valor. They had a front-row seat to learn more about the people, programs, and spirit that make up our organization. Thank you to all of our guests for attending! It is because of your support that we can continue providing dual-language early childhood education, programming and housing for adults with disabilities, and family services to over 4,000 in our community. If you were unable to attend, and would like to schedule a tour, contact emma.debiasio@elvalor.net. We’d love to have you out for a visit! #ElValorChicago

Less than 10% all published materials are available in formats that can be read by people living with print disabilities. With little to no access to resources in #accessible formats, young children often face the risk of isolation in the literary world and may miss out on a critical window for #languageadoption. It is important to include parents of children with disabilities in #ECD initiatives and help them in building stimulating environments for early learning. Transition support for students with disabilities and their families is available. TransitionTN is a major support we encourage local education agencies to utilize when discussing life after high school. There are so many resources for students, parents, and teachers that can assist with guiding transition planning. Teachers don't have to re-invent the wheel or feel overwhelmed. Because let's face it, that specific section of the IEP can be scary but it doesn't need to be, it needs to be measurable and accessible to the student. Visit https://transitiontn.org/ to get started on implementing these resources into your home or classroom. #disabilitysupport #transitionplanning #educationresources

The Fundamental Right to Play for All Children The right to play is fundamental for the well-being of children and young people. Often, adults forget how important playing was during their own childhood and how it positively influenced their development. This is frequently overlooked by donors and even high-level decision-makers. Many times, I have found myself explaining the necessity of child-friendly spaces and their importance for adolescents as well. For children, play is not just a pastime but an essential activity that supports their physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth. Through play, children learn about the world around them, develop social skills through peer interaction, enhance their creativity by inventing games and stories, and acquire critical skills such as problem-solving and teamwork. The right to play is enshrined in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which recognizes every child's right to rest and engage in recreational activities. Unfortunately, this right is often denied to many children living in poverty, experiencing school dropout, facing violence, and enduring war. For these children, play becomes a luxury rather than a natural part of everyday life. Creating safe and accessible play spaces, encouraging recreational activities in schools and communities, and raising awareness among adults about the importance of play are essential steps to ensure that all children can enjoy a healthy and happy childhood. Safe spaces for children to be children, also few hours a day, escaping the thoughts and fear of a war, yes, can be life saving. A world that allows children to play is one that values and safeguards their development and well-being, fostering a culture of childhood that must be protected. ##InternationalDayofPlay #righttoplay #childprotection #children #notatarget
