Policy Dialogue Workshop on “Co-work between buffer zone and local government” was organized jointly by Chitwan National Park, Buffer Zone Management Committee and WWF Nepal in Buffer zone of the National Park on 7th May 2024. Nepal’s remarkable achievements in biodiversity conservation should be linked with the livelihood of local communities for co-existence of people and wildlife. For this, coordination and collaboration framework between buffer zone management organizations and local governments should be developed. To begin with, some reforms are needed in policy, institutions, and practices related to conservation and development. WWF Nepal

"Over countless generations, traditional local cultivation practices have ensured the protection of biodiversity." A study from Germany highlights the importance of oases in desert and semi-arid regions for both people and wildlife Oases with access to water are densely populated and have a close link between culture and biodiversity. To ensure the sustainable use and protection of oases, it is crucial to consider the interconnectedness of biological and cultural diversity and develop comprehensive conservation strategies for these unique habitats Dive in> https://lnkd.in/eyPg3PvG

Africa rainforests are important centres of biodiversity than other rainforests Our forests need to be protected to safeguard both the huge number of species that live in them and the vast amounts of carbon they store. Today, we applaud Equitorial Guinea’s commitment to biodiversity protection and conservation, especially it’s critically endangered primates and nesting marine turtles through economically self-sustaining initiatives.

What do you think about biodiversity credits in New Zealand? Two of our project partners, Ministry for the Environment | Manatū mō te Taiao and Department of Conservation (DOC), are seeking public feedback on how a biodiversity credit system could be set up and what it should look like. Across New Zealand and right here in our catchment, tangata whenua, conservation groups and many landowners invest time and resources to protect and restore native biodiversity. Despite these efforts, thousands of native species are at risk of extinction, including some freshwater fish species in our Te Hoiere catchment. 🍃 What could biodiversity credits look like for New Zealand? 💦 What types of activities should be included? 🚜 Could a credit system incentivise connecting wildlife corridors for adjoining landowners? If you are already undertaking restoration activities or even thinking about it, don't let this opportunity pass to have your say. Submissions are open until 3 November. https://lnkd.in/gxEd-4mR #biodiversity #community #tehoiere
In Aotearoa New Zealand a third of our native species are threatened or at risk of extinction. Many landholders are working hard to protect and restore our unique wildlife, but many of our most threatened species and habitats are found outside of conservation land. Biodiversity credit systems are a way of supporting the efforts of landholders and central and local government to protect, maintain and enhance biodiversity. The Ministry for the Environment and the Department of Conservation are seeking public feedback on how a biodiversity credit system could work for Aotearoa New Zealand. Find out more and have your say here: https://lnkd.in/gxEd-4mR

The biodiversity monitoring and protection plan of the Kuamut Rainforest Conservation project has three key objectives: 1. Secure critical orangutan habitats and populations. 2. Fill knowledge gaps on the use of the project area by RTE and HCV species (e.g. elephants, gibbons, helmeted and other hornbill species, endemic trees and other plant species). 3. Secure habitat for other wide-ranging species and buffer the western flank of the Danum Valley Conservation Area – the only significant area of lowland primary forest remaining in Sabah. #kuamutrainforestconservationproject #biodiversitymonitoring #RTE #rarethreatenedendangeredspecies #sabah #conservation #malaysia Philip Ulok Sunarto Sunarto Ivy Wong Sarah Scriven Yani Saloh

BirdLife's annual State of the World's Birds Report is out, highlighting familiar concerns: 🚨 11 more species have been moved to higher threat levels due to a deterioration in status. 🚨 Agriculture threatens 73% of bird species, highlighting the urgency of adopting and implementing comprehensive legislation for nature restoration, such as the recently sealed EU #naturerestoration law. 🚨 Over half of forests within Key Biodiversity Areas identified for forest species no longer have high integrity. However, downlisted species provide reasons for hope, showing the positive impacts of conservation actions, and especially that #indigenouspeoples' lands play a vital role in biodiversity conservation 🌳. https://lnkd.in/eTPD_Dhp #GlobalBiodiversity #RedList #conservationefforts

What is 30x30? 30x30 is a global commitment to protect at least 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030. The Philippines will be launching the 30X30 commitment on Aug.30, 2023. In this regard, the Philippine Biodiversity Corridor Project is targetting establisment and expansion of other high value conservation areas including LCAs and ICCAs (with the imprimatur of the IPs).
