New on the ethics site! The paper addresses a critical issue plaguing global health: the phenomenon of 'invisibility', where the most marginalized and impoverished populations are systematically overlooked by those in positions of power. Drawing on case studies from Brazil, Malaysia, West Africa, and other transnational contexts, the authors highlight the complex nature of invisibility and its deep-rooted connection to social, political, and economic factors. The paper emphasizes the complementary nature of 'comforting' and 'disturbing' bioethical frameworks, suggesting that both are necessary to achieve the overarching goal of better health and wellbeing for all. It calls for interdisciplinary collaboration, drawing on insights from sociology, anthropology, postcolonial studies, feminist studies, and other critical disciplines, to challenge dominant narratives and promote cooperation beyond market-driven approaches. https://lnkd.in/egdeAg7J

Philosophy underpins how we think about the world, our relationship to the environment, and each other and shapes how we know what we know. Philosophical worldviews shape how we view relationships, ethics, politics, aesthetics, and the environment. At this point in human history, there seems to be a shift in the philosophical orientation we have to the world. #TransactionalCompetence #InfluentialU #InfluenceEcology #johndpatterson

We should care whether LLMs actually "think" or not, because there's a difference in nature between a justified true belief and an accidentally true statement. No LLM utilizes a valid epistemology. #epistemology #truth #knowledge
