People often struggle with the “how” part of feeling happy. Here are four things I’ve learned that promote inner joy. Don’t rely on other people or things to make you happy. That often leads to disappointment. Regardless of where you’re at in life… Happiness is borne out of GRATITUDE and SERVING OTHERS. It is a choice YOU make. CHOOSE WISELY.

For a little more than 12 years, most of my days begin by putting pen to paper in my Gratitude Journal, where I jot down (in less than a line each) my 3 favorite 'moments' from the previous day. Excellent 'spark' of joy to launch into the new day. And as for the 'giving' part...what began as a 'hippie kindness mission' a little more than a decade ago has become (with my family) an official 501c3 call BeachBum Philanthropy. When we INTENTIONALLY make these building blocks an intentional part of our lives, we can build all the happiness we need.

This statement provides insights into fostering happiness and inner joy by emphasizing personal responsibility and mindset. It highlights the importance of not relying solely on external factors for happiness, as they can often lead to disappointment. Instead, the statement suggests that true happiness comes from within, through practices such as gratitude and serving others. By making conscious choices to focus on gratitude and acts of kindness towards others, individuals can cultivate a sense of fulfillment and joy in their lives. Ultimately, the statement encourages individuals to take ownership of their happiness and make intentional choices that contribute to their well-being.

My 3 foundation things to learn to understand happiness: 1. Everything is neutral, only the mind creates meaning (good or bad) 2. The mind is partly a survival mechanism, wired to seek potential threats. This doesn't mean you're less-than, it just means you're human - and it takes work to shift survival thoughts. 3. You are not your thoughts. You are the one witnessing your thoughts. And a bonus one - you are in total control of your inner world once you choose to be. Getting these truths is where freedom & happiness begins.

Great points Ed. I think a key indicator someone doesn't have their head in the right direction is saying things like " I want to start a business cause I hate my job" or "because I want x...." All the "I" Statements indicate that person thinks it's about them. It isn't, it's about whoever you are going to serve. Once you see it through that lens you will be on the right track and be grateful for the opportunity.

When we align our natural gifts by serving and being grateful for others, we create a ripple effect of kindness and compassion that can transform our communities and ourselves. Giving becomes it's own reward and happiness is a natural byproduct.

Number 2 is a hard one for people to accept. Too many people move through life thinking that they are not responsible for their reality. The truth is, you are 100% responsible for your reality. And this means that you are the one responsible for creating happiness.

Happiness is self-made and if you don't stop going after people, fame, likes, material things, and attention you'll find that the small things you already have are more than enough to make you happy.

Great reminder Ed! Happiness is something that can't be solely dependent on external factors like other people or material possessions. It's an inside job that starts with gratitude and serving others. Choosing to focus on the things we're grateful for and using our natural gifts to make a positive impact on others can truly bring us joy.  Happiness is a CHOICE we make.
