One thing I've noticed during this job search: *far* too many data scientist postings are requiring experience or familiarity with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow relative to how often deep learning is actually used or useful in most data science roles. If you're hiring a data scientist and they're not working on large language models, computer vision, generative AI, or time series forecasting with terabytes or petabytes of sales data, then they don't need to be familiar with these libraries.

ML Engineer: "Why should I explain what real-world application I used *sentence piece tokenization* with? The ML team hiring me knows" Human: "Because humans do not know why *RAG* or *Embeddings* matter" To all y'all engineers. Learn the impact of your work. I always thought as machine learning very similar to privacy when it comes to theory and practice. There's a wide gap between machine learning on paper and actual machine learning -- and that's engineering/infrastructure. This is a pretty interesting role where you'll get to actually build large scale/impactful machine learning systems and not just play with hyper-parameters -- you'll have both the opportunities and the space. Benoit also has both the knowledge and the experience in building this kind of things, so I highly recommend this opportunity :)
I'm hiring! If you're interested to work at the intersection of Machine Learning and Systems, please reach out. Lots of opportunities to go from 0 to 1 and make Databricks infra top-notch through AI. https://lnkd.in/g4fpntmH
