A recruiter's pitch without understanding your career goals is a red flag. However, if a recruiter shows genuine interest in your profile and wants to have a conversation, be receptive. Building a relationship with a good recruiter can help you stay informed about your job market and potentially lead to exciting career opportunities. In today's rapidly changing world, it's always a benefit to stay informed. #recruiting #jobmarket #careeropportunities
Just a little advice to the recruiter out there. If you are going to message someone stating that you "came across your profile and I am impressed with your experience and think you would be a great fit...." you might actually want to read the individuals profile. Today was a perfect example. The position they were recruiting for was a Civil Estimator. No where in my profile does in mention Civil. If you looked close enough, you would see I have 44+ years in the Electrical Field. LOL

I'm curious if there are any other contractors and sub-contractors on here and what is your sales cycle process? I'll outline mine and any feedback or what you do differently would be appreciated. I know we have room for improvement, but this is the process I've developed. Obviously every project is a little different, but this is the gist of it. Our sales cycles range from couple days to 6 months. 1. Connect with potential client to review project basics and determine if project is good fit for our team. 2. If decent plans are available, review and get rough numbers going. 3. Submit rough numbers in email to client including export/import amounts, concrete volumes, and any major exclusions or perceived challenges. 4. If numbers are close, schedule site visit to firm up assumptions. 5. Work through any scope changes and value engineering exercises, if needed. 6. Submit formal proposal for signature. 7. Hand off job to accounting department to submit/receive deposit invoice to save slot. 8. Hand off job field team and review particulars of project. 9. Start project. #salescycle #concrete #construction #excavation #beexcellenttoeachother

The circumstances by which any contract may come to a premature end can be broadly categorised as: • termination - by agreement of the parties • frustration - arising from events beyond the control of the parties • determination - based on the default of one of the parties We aren’t a Quantity Surveyor just to prepare a Bill of Quantities , we are also trained on how to manage any form of contracts and advice in terms of dispute between the client and a contractor . We have different kind of Quantity surveying bible such as JCT , NEC 1 to 4 and so on . To all Quantity Surveyors out there. Stop limiting you roles to just preparation of a bill of Quantities and materials schedule. #We are more than just a Quantifier#

A friend of mine works for a big civil contractor in a fast-growing metro area in the US. We were catching up the other day and he told me that their total estimated work for 2023 was just over $1 billion. Their estimating department isn’t huge, it’s 5 or 6 estimators. The amount of work that those folks bid is unreal and it’s because they’re highly efficient. Most of them do 1-2 complete site work package bids every week. They can do this because their processes are set up so that it’s exactly the same each time. Takeoff items are all standardized and in a database. Those takeoff items match the pay items in the estimating software and the amount of manual entry is negligible. They make great use of online planrooms and have their subcontractors and suppliers working off of standard pricing packages so that entering quotes is quick and efficient. Their ability to bid more than $1 billion worth of work in a year with 5-6 estimators is only possible because they put a lot of effort and forethought into their system and setup and are continually tweaking it to make it better. Despite the effort that they have put in to reach such a high level of efficiency, they all work 55-60 hours every week and burnout is a constant problem…but that’s a subject for another post.
