⏰ Have you checked out NewComm's new website lately? I think you should. For those new around here, NewComm is a forward-thinking, learner-centered ecosystem dedicated to transforming public education and empowering underserved high school students to address local challenges through community-based social ventures. We believe a decentralized and community-centered education is essential to dismantle the inequalities present in the current education system. At the heart of NewComm's approach is "literary science," a dynamic tool we pioneered that leverages the study of literature as a powerful design tool for civic engagement. By immersing students the themes and questions posed by renowned BIPOC literary figures such as Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez in year-long projects, NewComm provides a foundation for comprehensive and culturally aligned qualitative research methods. This empowers students to develop strategic, meaningful, and sustainable solutions to real-world challenges. In sum, we believe in the transformative power of education to address the evolving challenges of our world. We position learning as an urgent and necessary journey, empowering our students to see college not just as an academic step, but as a crucial phase in deepening their purpose and equipping themselves with tools to creating better systems. Through this approach, NewComm redefines the value of education, ensuring our students understand its vital role in building more innovative and inclusive futures for all. Check us out!

As parents, it's important for us to recognize the crucial role that technology plays in our children’s education. In the digital age, technology is at the center of our lives in most environments, and the classroom is no exception. Student today have grown up in a world surrounded by technology. They do not know what it is like to experience life without cell phones, computers, televisions and other common tech devices. Technology it's a powerful tool that can enhance learning and skill development in remarkable ways, if used in the right ways. Here are some key points on how you can support your teens in utilizing technology for academic success: 1. Embrace technology as a learning tool: Instead of seeing technology as a hindrance, view it as a valuable resource that can supplement traditional learning methods. Encourage our teens to explore educational websites, apps, and online resources that align with their interests and academic goals. 2. Foster digital literacy skills: In addition to academic knowledge, our teens need to develop strong digital literacy skills to thrive in the 21st century workforce. Let's support them in learning how to navigate the internet responsibly, critically evaluate online information, and effectively communicate using digital platforms. 3. Set boundaries and establish balance: While technology can be a valuable educational tool, it's also important to set boundaries and establish a healthy balance. Encourage our teens to take regular breaks from screens, engage in offline activities, and prioritize face-to-face interactions with peers and mentors. 4. Stay informed and involved: As parents, it's essential to stay informed about the latest trends and developments in educational technology. Attend parent-teacher meetings, participate in school workshops on digital learning, and stay engaged in conversations with our teens about their experiences with technology in the classroom. 5. Provide guidance and support: Finally, let's be a source of guidance and support for our teens as they navigate the complexities of technology in education. Offer encouragement, help troubleshoot technical challenges, and provide opportunities for our teens to explore their interests and passions through digital tools and platforms. By embracing technology as a valuable learning tool and providing our teens with the support and guidance they need, we can empower them to succeed academically and thrive in an increasingly digital world. Let's work together to harness the power of technology for our teens' educational journey! #Education #TechnologyInLearning #ParentingTips
