According to Deloitte, 60% of current students believe generative AI has influenced their career decisions. These students are 30% more likely to use generative AI than current workers. The workforce has already changed dramatically in the time it will take them to complete their degrees, yet this willingness to greet change head-on shows they are perhaps more prepared than many within the workforce. It's an important reminder that AI isn't going anywhere, and those who use it best will be at an advantage.

Bosses want to hire people with AI aptitude, but many employees aren’t focused on the new technology. Nearly all executives — 96% — feel an urgency to incorporate AI into their business operations. Yet over two-thirds of desk workers say they’ve never used AI, according to a March 2024 Slack Workforce Lab survey of more than 10,000 professionals. People who don’t learn AI risk losing career opportunities to those who do, says Lydia Logan, IBM’s vice president of global education and workforce development. Generative AI is expected to affect more than 300 million jobs worldwide, per Goldman Sachs’s estimates. You don’t need to learn the ins and outs of machine learning or data analytics to stay relevant in the changing landscape. The one AI skill that’s in “crazy demand,” according to Logan, and that she encourages everyone to learn, is prompt engineering. Here's how you can get started.
This AI skill pays over $100,000 a year and is in 'crazy demand,' says IBM exec—it's one 'you can use almost anywhere'

AI Skills Development in European Businesses A report reveals a concerning trend: less than half of European companies are supporting their employees in learning AI, despite the dramatic impact of generative AI on job skills. With an estimated 68% change in job skills by 2030, the need for AI literacy is urgent. In the UK, only 44% of businesses are taking action, followed by 36% in the Netherlands and 38% in France. This is alarming, as 83% of European professionals are eager to use AI in their work, believing it will advance their careers. The skill gap is expected to widen, making it crucial for companies to prioritize AI education to stay competitive. Interestingly, forward-looking companies investing in AI skills are set to lead. It’s time for all businesses to respond to this transformative wave by enhancing AI literacy among employees, ensuring they are ready for the future. #AI #SkillsGap #FutureOfWork #EmployeeDevelopment

“With generative AI, historical trends have flipped: In the past, technology advances and automation largely impacted manual labor and process-centric knowledge work. This time, jobs with higher levels of knowledge may be most affected, according to the research, conducted in partnership with Oxford Economics. Already, jobs involving credit analysis, computer programming, web development, database administration and graphic design have a “theoretical maximum exposure” score of 50%, meaning half of their job tasks are prone to being fully automated by generative AI, the research revealed. By 2032, as technology advances, this score may climb to 80% for some jobs, it found.” #humanresources #business #management #artificialintelligence #jobs

Tech professionals are going to - and already are - have their roles transformed by AI. But what about business managers and other professionals? Right now, there isn’t really any area of any industry that hasn’t been touched by AI in some way. That includes its impact on managerial and professional jobs. “Jobs with a high level of exposure to AI tend to be in higher-paying fields where a college education and analytical skills can be a plus. Workers with a bachelor’s degree or more (27%) are more than twice as likely as those with a high school diploma only (12%) to see the most exposure.” It’s being suggested that there needs to be a shift to greater involvement in talent and upskilling employees when it comes to data science and machine learning. To put it simply, it’s all about AI amplifying human skill, not replacing it. It’s not only tech professionals that will benefit from AI adoption.
