Halfords Autocentres have had a strong year with sales growing by 10% despite the wider Halford group achieving a 18.3% drop in profit. For the 12 months ending March 29, Halfords reported an 18.3% drop in underlying pre-tax profits to £36.1 million. On a statutory basis, pre-tax profits plunged by 45% to £19.9 million. One major factor behind this decline was a drop in demand for bikes, with like-for-like cycling sales decreasing by 2.8%. Despite this setback, there was a silver lining: Halfords' Autocentres business saw a 10.7% increase in sales, contributing to a 5% growth for the wider group.
