what the excavation-field needs is a month-off from getting an area marked. I think that would drive home ( for everybody) that the Insurance every machine-dig needs is a good locator. there are "tells" everywhere. I'm kidding, completely.(about time-off) but I will point-out All the planning that should be done at a project's outset, ya gotta call before you dig. But wait. You must be about to dig. there should be a preliminary locate protocol. how could it be any clearer? unless somebody's wearin' flip-flops and staying one step ahead of a damage, maybe. I will ever believe locating should be desired of Junior Engineers, since what you really need to know is above the accepted subcontractor pay-grade. I think too, properly done, the job is a local govt service. controlled by rules,no? But of course who would pay for it?

The circumstances by which any contract may come to a premature end can be broadly categorised as: • termination - by agreement of the parties • frustration - arising from events beyond the control of the parties • determination - based on the default of one of the parties We aren’t a Quantity Surveyor just to prepare a Bill of Quantities , we are also trained on how to manage any form of contracts and advice in terms of dispute between the client and a contractor . We have different kind of Quantity surveying bible such as JCT , NEC 1 to 4 and so on . To all Quantity Surveyors out there. The project of replace the overhead line (OHL) with underground medium voltage (MV) cables, follow these general steps: 1- Survey and Planning: Conduct a survey to determine the route for the underground cables, considering factors like terrain, existing infrastructure, and environmental impact. Plan the cable layout, including cable routes, cable sizes, and termination points. 2- Obtain Permits and Approvals: Obtain necessary permits and approvals from local authorities, landowners, and relevant stakeholders for trenching, excavation, and cable installation. 3- Trenching and Excavation: Excavate trenches along the planned route for laying the underground cables. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental guidelines during excavation. 4- Cable Installation: Lay the MV cables in the trenches according to the planned layout. Use appropriate cable laying techniques and equipment to ensure proper cable alignment and depth. Install cable markers and warning tapes as required. 5- Jointing and Terminations: Install cable joints and terminations at specified intervals and at connection points such as substations, transformers, and distribution boards. Ensure proper insulation and sealing to protect against moisture and environmental factors. 6- Testing and Commissioning: Conduct tests such as insulation resistance, continuity, and voltage withstand tests to ensure the integrity and performance of the installed cables. Commission the underground MV system after successful testing. 7- Backfilling and Restoration: Backfill the trenches with suitable materials and restore the surface to its original condition. Ensure proper compaction and restoration to prevent ground settlement and damage to the cables. 8- Documentation and Maintenance: Document the installation process, including cable specifications, test results, as-built drawings, and maintenance procedures. Establish a regular maintenance schedule to inspect, test, and maintain the underground MV cables for optimal performance and longevity. 9- Safety Precautions: Throughout the process, prioritize safety by adhering to safety protocols, providing proper training to personnel, and implementing safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries. 10- Compliance and Regulations: Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations governing underground cable installation, including safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
