In a deluge of documents, yesterday the European Commission presented it's proposal to improve how key chemicals legislation tasks are undertaken by Union agencies. The proposal impacts European Chemicals Agency, European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), European Medicines Agency, European Environment Agency and European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). The proposals include: 🏭 Re-attribution of Tasks: Proposes reattributing scientific and technical work on chemicals to European agencies, rationalising the use of expertise and resources. 👨💻 👩💻 Cooperation Among Agencies: Emphasises the need for clear allocation of responsibilities and enhanced cooperation among EU agencies involved in chemical assessments. ✅ Methodological Consistency: Advocates for harmonised methodologies across agencies to ensure consistent safety assessments. 🔎 Transparency: Stresses the importance of transparency in assessment procedures and the underlying scientific data. 💶 Impact on Agencies: Addresses the need for adequate resourcing of agencies in light of the redistributed tasks and responsibilities. The objective is to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, coherence, and transparency of chemical safety assessments across the EU by implementing the 'one substance, one assessment' approach. Europe calls for comments and evidence for Diglyme. Calls for comments and evidence allow interested parties to signal their interest and express their views and concerns in the preparatory phase of the restriction proposal.
