I really like this approach to hiring: Esben Warming Pedersen at Nordea is looking for a Product Owner to join his team of 90+ colleagues working in the Digital team serving Large Corporate customers. Instead of the generic job ad, Esben has recorded a video presentation outlining the team, the situation and the need for the role. Right at the end he even highlights the bank's super Copenhagen office facilities (Nordea's Metro HQ, is excellent). These are important aspects to touch upon for any potential candidates in a highly competitive region. I think this approach by Esben is inspired and, I would hope, likely to really increase the quality (and possibly quantity) of candidates that will apply as a result. It also immediately answers a lot of the basic questions that you might not easily answer in the text of a job advert. Plus, I would suggest that the human aspect of hearing Esben describe the role and the opportunity will be very compelling to the target audience. How are you reaching new talent to come and work with you? Have you considered adopting a similar approach to Esben and Nordea? Good luck Esben and nice work.

At ZOE, one major aspect of empowering our members to understand the impact that food is having on their body is by helping them keep track of their diet. But keeping track of what you've eaten is onerous, and a difficult habit to sustain. Over the past 6 months, we've had a lot of fun figuring out how we can solve the major logging challenges that members report by leveraging LLM technology. Either by scanning a picture to get a personalised score of a recipe page in seconds, or by going from a text description of a meal far quicker and more reliably than guessing. And it's working! Members tell us that this approach is their preferred way to keep track of their food in restaurants. Take a look at this example from my local café, scanning the handwritten menu and scoring what I ordered, even with the terrible output from the native text recognition! It's not perfect, of course, it still needs some manual editing, but compared to the alternatives, it's a significant improvement, and it feels like magic when it works well. This is what the best restaurants are doing in January 🙂 1 – They’re executing the marketing plans they created in November to ensure they’re sales are improving over last year. With January often being one of the slowest months of the year, this is the time to push the marketing and drive more sales, and gain new customers (which will help make your peak spring / summer season even better). Remember – Great summer sales are built in the winter. ❄️ 2 – Hiring. When everyone else is cutting hours and trying to save money, the best restaurants are taking advantage of the hiring opportunities. When fewer people are hiring, that means you get to pick up better quality candidates. So now is the time to create the team you want to take with you into your peak season. 3 – Planning the next marketing campaign. 🗓️ Most restaurants are only now starting to think of what marketing they can do in January to help boost sales, but the best are already planning for March, April and May. Right now is the time to plan for the future. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. 🤷♂️
