In reality, these rights are too often not experienced by children and youth with FASD and their families. Caregivers often feel that FASD is seen as an “undeserving disability” and is frequently a diagnosis that leads to nowhere. Services and supports are few and far between, and access to government-funded supports is often based on complicated processes and eligibility criteria through which those with FASD rarely make the cut. Families sometimes look to charitable organizations for bits of help. Still, the paperwork to get any support is often daunting, and many caregivers do not have the capacity to jump through all the hoops. Even when they spend countless hours seeking services and completing paperwork, there is no guarantee these families will get any support. If they do, it is rarely consistent or sustainable. 📗Get more information from Hands, not Hurdles: Helping Children with FASD and their Families - key messages for community service providers. 👉Find this and other books, brochures and handouts on our site under “Resources”: https://buff.ly/3vEoiIX #FASDawareness #FetalAlcoholSpectrumDisorder #FASDsupport #BrainBasedParenting

Women in vulnerable situations are facing challenges due to the high cost of living and basic essentials. Unfortunately, gaps in support, lack of adjustment in financial aid, and the time it takes to receive aid are only making it harder for them. It's crucial that businesses and individuals continue to offer support to help bridge this gap. #womenempowerment #financialaid #supportneeded
The dramatic rise in the cost of living has impacted all of us in some way, shape or form. But the worst of the impact is felt by the most vulnerable in our community -- women and children, most of whom are already in crisis. For many of these women, their primary concern isn't purchasing cheaper food, rather they're facing even more difficult decisions of leaving an unsafe home with nowhere to go or feeling as if they have to stay and risking their lives because they lack the means to leave. This month, we want to raise $150,000 so we can provide women and children at Nisa Homes with the opportunity to lead a safe and independent life and heal from their trauma. How can you help? 🔹 Donate to our LaunchGood campaign to help us reach our goal. Share the campaign with your family and friends as well! 🔹Take part in the #OvernightChallenge on October 20 by spending the night in your car to raise funds and awareness. 🔹Share your rental listing with us so we can work together to provide affordable housing options for Nisa Homes residents. To donate and learn how you can bring our women and children from crisis to comfort, visit: https://nhom.es/njzcKi #NisaHomes #WomensShelter #ShelterRelief #HousingCrisis #Homelessness #MuslimCharity #UrgentAppeal #FromCrisisToComfort #UrgentRelief

FAN is very excited to announce that today we are participating in GiveOUT Day 2023! We are fundraising to provide important neuropsychological assessments for LGBTIQ+ young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. A link to our GiveOUT Day page can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gERiHiwc By providing access to neuropsychological assessment to LGBTIQ+ young people, FAN aims to facilitate young people in exploring and understanding their own brain function and how this impacts their day-to-day life. Neuropsychological assessment can be an important step in the identification or diagnosis of complex mental health conditions or neurodiversity and/or disability; and is often pivotal in ensuring young people are able to access appropriate support (such as NDIS support and funding, medication, and ongoing therapeutic and social intervention and support). LGBTIQ+ young people experiencing homelessness are already facing significant barriers and challenges in accessing appropriate intervention and support; and this is exacerbated for young people living with an undiagnosed disability or complex mental health condition. Assessment is the first step in ensuring that the needs of LGBTIQ+ young people are being addressed and met appropriately. Donations are open now! Please consider donating to FAN this GiveOUT day, and help us reach our fundraising goal of $5000

Help Us Create Homes for Women and Children Affected by Violence 🏠 💜 In the last 3 years (1st of July 2020 to 30th April 2024), we at the Hobart Women's Shelter have witnessed a disturbing increase in the demand for our services. Over 4379 women and their children have sought emergency accommodation from us - and we have only been able to support 929 of those women and children. That’s 8 in 10 people we have had to turn away due to always being at capacity. Tasmania’s housing crisis is particularly damaging for women and children. Women and children are staying longer at our Shelter as there are limited affordable housing options available. Unfortunately, many of these women and their children will stay in, or return to, violent situations where they are at risk of experiencing further trauma, injury, and in some cases death. The number one reason why women will not leave a violent situation is the fear of being homeless. In 2022, we embarked on an ambitious project to build 25 new long-term homes to create additional housing pathways and help alleviate the bottleneck in our service. We’ve completed our first two homes, showcased here, and received two more land donations for future development. While we have achieved so much already, there is still a long way to go. You can help us create beautiful, safe homes and housing pathways for women and children. Buy a Brick today and help build someone's future. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible. https://lnkd.in/gHMz5Bja #genderbasedviolence #genderbasedviolenceawareness #hobart #tasmania #nonprofitleadership #philanthropy #EOFY #advocacy #endviolence #homelessness #donatetoday #communityengagement #corporateresponsibility #socialimpact

Our recent research looked at the higher costs of everyday, non-specialist, household and play items like furniture, clothes and toys for families raising autistic children. This study specifically looked at items which needed to be commonly replaced and of higher quality, to suit neurodiverse children’s needs. https://lnkd.in/eCNuudib These costs add up to an additional spend of over £51 each week for an acceptable minimum living standard when compared to the same everyday items for families with neurotypical children. These are unavoidable costs. As they are required to meet the sensory, physical, emotional and developmental needs of children on the spectrum. Children who use items differently as part of their condition. Can you donate to Family Fund, so we can continue to support families raising disabled children? https://lnkd.in/eMVvnzKa #Research #Autism #CostOfLiving
