Anne Togola from our coordinator BRGM gave a presentation at this year's congress on PFAS: Management of Environment & Health Risks in Paris. The topic of her presentation was "Environmental metrology challenges for a better understanding of the sources and transfer of #PFAS in the #environment". She presented actions undertaken in different projects, including #PROMISCES, and talked about environmental metrology as a key area of research, which must provide answers as early as possible to enable relevant and effective management measures. With regard to the need for knowledge, two major areas are currently being developed: characterization of the main sources of #pollution from both a quantitative and qualitative point of view, and characterization of the impregnation of environmental media, but also of foodstuffs and populations.

The organisation has also published a #Manifesto for Environmental Health 2024, outlining critical issues the next government must address, with a roadmap for action. As part of the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health [#CIEH] campaign, parliamentary candidates have been ‘invited’ to take a number of steps to support the #UK environment. These include:  *Constructive engagement with CIEH on environmental health issues in the manifesto  *Elevate the profile of environmental health in parliament  *Collaborate to establish an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Environmental Health, driving focused discussions and actions in parliament The 2024 UK #GeneralElection is already set to bring about widespread change, with more than 120 #MPs preparing to stand down. CIEH hope this presents an opportunity for more climate-aligned and pro-environmental politicians to take a seat in the #HouseofCommons. A new ‘Write To Your Candidate’ template has now gone live at the CIEH website. This pre-written letter can be signed and sent directly to electoral hopefuls in any constituency, ensuring environmental health remains at the forefront of their minds. ‘We are excited to launch our General Election campaign, which is designed to bring environmental health to the forefront of political discussions,’ said Louise Hosking, Executive Director of Environmental Health at CIEH. ‘Our manifesto, co-produced with our member-led Advisory Panels, provides a clear roadmap for addressing key environmental health issues. Our pledge campaign aims to create meaningful partnerships with MPs, making it an ideal time for our members to get involved. ‘With many new faces expected in #Parliament, this is a unique opportunity to influence a new generation of #policymakers and ensure that #environmental health becomes a priority,’ she continued. ‘We encourage all our members to join us in this effort by downloading our letter template and writing to their parliamentary candidates. By working together, we can make a significant impact during this critical pre-election period and put environmental health firmly on the political agenda.’
