Recently, I visited exhibitions by Miguel Chevalier, Raoul Dufy and the artfairs as Kiaf and Frieze in Seoul. While attending an exhibition by #MiguelChevalier in Seoul, I found myself contemplating the potential fusion of digital art with luxury fashion. I envision a video art exhibition where each element operates independently, seamlessly integrating interactive art customized exclusively for luxury brands with captivating print patterns. 1. A Biased Human Upon realizing artpieces were created by robots, I found myself having a curios yet disappointing. I started having biased notion that it’s less perfect than expected for a robot. I’m so surprised to realize the representativeness heuristic within myself. 2. How to interweave Digital art and Luxury fashion? The intersection of digital art and luxury fashion, emphasizing the importance of real-world experiences. I suggest blending interactive digital art with luxury brands like Hermès and PUCCI Additionally, visiting another exhibition by #RaoulDufy and watching his video artwork, I couldn’t help but think of Hermès. It would be fantastic to see a video art exhibition where each element moves separately, incorporating interactive art, specifically tailored for Hermès. 🌟360DESIGN, blurring the lines between Digital and Reality 🌏 I came across an intriguing article on DesignBoom, "Tokyo's Digital Art Scene: Must-See Openings in 2023-24," and the idea of jetting off to Tokyo for a digital art extravaganza is truly enticing. (Read it here:https://lnkd.in/e4-z-3R6) Imagine immersing yourself in Tokyo's digital art scene while savoring its culture and cuisine. I've embarked on spontaneous trips before, like when Comme Des Garcons invited me to their Paris runway shows. It was a whirlwind weekend escape from New York to Paris. However, the reality check is that Tokyo feels out of reach at the moment. But here's the twist: What if we could bridge the gap between our yearning for unattainable exhibitions and the constraints of the real world? What if we could create something even more immersive than videos or images? Philips recently rented our New York pop-up gallery space (https://www.the360.space) for an exhibition celebrating motherhood through the work of four talented women painters. It got me thinking: Can we fashion a digital twin of this exhibition, a transcendent experience that defies physical boundaries? Philips responded with enthusiasm, and suddenly, we were on a whirlwind journey to recreate The360Space's digital twin for their upcoming art exhibition—just 10 days away! 💭 How will the future of fashion look like? As a designer, I constantly wonder the future of fashion. During my second year at art school, the documentary "True Cost" opened my eyes to the unsustainable cycle of production and consumption. It sparked a quest for alternative methods, leading me to grow materials with kombucha, dye fabrics with flowers, and volunteer in sorting factories for second-hand clothing. About five years ago, 3D entered my path, and it clicked instantly. This, I felt, is the future of fashion. Yet, I soon discovered that 3D had been around for years, with the fashion industry adopting it out of necessity during the pandemic. For some, unfortunately, 3D fashion was a trend- neglegting it's true power. Every day, I realize that working as a digital fashion designer isn't just about artistry but also activism. I wholeheartedly believe in this cause. Despite setbacks, I continue working towards a better future, engaging in conversations and visualizing what that future could look like. I was thrilled when Antonio Talarico, Isabelle Udo and CLARE TATTERSALL invited me again to participate in Future Front Row during Digital Fashion Week in New York. This time, there is no pre-recorded animations on the catlwak, but real-time interaction. In a performance with a dancer, the lines between augmented reality and live action blur as the designs come to life. The performance will be featured by the otherworldly characters of Harriet Davey. In the past, brands created worlds through editorials, films, and photoshoots, where the product manifested the experience. With the digital shift, we no longer need just the product; we can now be part of the experience. Call me delusional, but I believe that as traditional stores fade from our streets, we will fill these voids with immersive experiences. "WE'RE BUILDING A HOUSE": HOW RABANNE IS USING ART INNOVATION TO LEVEL UP Madeleine Schulz for Vogue Business: Chief brand officer Vincent Thilloy and creative director Julien Dossena on how a new digital art partnership with Art Basel is a prong in the brand’s strategy to become a fully fledged fashion house. Launched in December in partnership with Dazed Media, the programme is geared towards supporting the next generation of digital artists. Today, the Rabanne Arts Factory announces a partnership with Art Basel: six digital artists are in the running to win the opportunity to show at Art Basel Miami in December. 🎹 Part of the purpose, Thilloy says, is to cater to the youth: “To galvanise the younger generation to forge a more creative and inclusive world.” The idea started three or four years ago, he says: the Rabanne team wanted to develop something to uplift younger generations. The brand looked to digital art, in part, because of the young demographic creating work in this space. Innovation is also key. “We want to [help] emerge new talents, and new ways of expressing artistic behaviour – the same way that César was using metal to do the sculptures.” (César was one of the artists that told Paco Rabanne he should make metal dresses.) But do young people even still care about digital art? They should, Dossena says. This parallels Rabanne’s wider rebrand, which began last year when it dropped the ‘Paco’. The goal was to unify the brand under one vision. The Rabanne Arts Factory will continue to evolve to meet younger generations where they’re at. 🎸 Building the house “It’s not just about the product. It’s about: What is the purpose of Rabanne?” Might digital art play a role in this design? Perhaps, Dossena says. But it’ll be part of the process, not an automation. “It’s definitely an area we are going to explore – but in totally the opposite way to AI. That’s why I insist on the medium aspect of [digital art]: it’s different from the finalisation of the image. It’s good to interrogate the image.” 📟 Rabanne wants to communicate this message of innovation internationally, too. It’s why Art Basel was the ideal partner for this project, Thilloy says: the winner will be announced in Miami, but the fair also has a presence in Paris, Hong Kong and Basel, Switzerland (where the six finalists are announced today). The project is indicative of how fashion is approaching the digital world today. 🦁 MNTGE teams up with Dukes Cupboard on new vintage collection Web3-native indie label Mntge has joined forces with London’s vintage hotspot Dukes Cupboard to launch a new capsule collection. The drop, which goes live on June 20, features 75 rare vintage pieces spanning from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. Gems on offer include Prada, Comme des Garçons, Stone Island, and Moncler. Each piece is chipped with NFC technology; when scanned, owners can access information on the garment’s history and provenance. To celebrate, Mntge and Dukes will host a special pop-up event for Paris Fashion Week, running from June 20–22. Located in Sephora Times Square, the immersive activation allows users to browse the label's bronzer collection and select their ideal shade.
