For International Women’s Day 2024 and every other day of the year, we champion the many vital roles that women perform across the Armed Forces Community. We support thousands of extraordinary women each year who have served, are currently serving or who have supported a family member who has served. Those who have made great sacrifices to protect our way of life, have been deployed away from home at difficult times, and have given their lives for our freedom. Approximately 1.8 million members of the Armed Forces community are female. Some women may face specific and additional challenges as a result of Service life, such as increased difficulties finding work after service and a lack of services designed and tailored for serving women and veterans. A recent study of 750 female veterans found that 22.7% experienced emotional bullying, 3.3% experienced physical assault, and currently only a small proportion of veteran research mentions women and an even smaller percentage focusses on women. Please join us this #InternationalWomensDay in celebrating women of the Armed Forces community, including RBL volunteers, supporters and staff.

June 12th marks the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act in 1948. This law enabled women to serve as permanent, regular members in all branches of the armed forces. Today we recognize the accomplishments of women veterans who paved the way for future generations of heroes. New opinion article of mine in The Hill. Public opinion is shfting, and we are missing it. Compared to their parents, younger Americans want different things in their foreign policy. They are against military entanglements and no longer see America as that shiny light on the hill. Tepid support for both Ukraine and Israel can be understood in this context.
