Every July 1st, the New York Mets—an American baseball team—pay $1,193,248.20 to Bobby Bonilla. Bonilla hasn’t played for the Mets for decades. Payments will continue until Bonilla is 72 years old. This fiasco is called 𝘽𝙤𝙗𝙗𝙮 𝘽𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖 𝘿𝙖𝙮 and is just one more indignity heaped upon long-suffering New York Met fans by their management over the team’s 66 years of existence. The aim of the payments was to defer $5.9 million of his salary using an annuity. Interest rates were high then, so they negotiated an 8% interest rate and will pay $30 million over the years. The Mets would have been considerably better off considering a 𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙤 of lower-interest rates because, even today, rates never approached 8% again. Single-future forecasts are not good for business or any endeavor. If you have to Stagger your two best players because they can’t play together, your Roster is Fundamentally Flawed. A good example of this are the Atlanta Hawks. Overall Staggering your best individual players is largely impossible because if they are going to play 35 Minutes Per Game they are going to have to play many of their minutes together.

With this baseball contract which should make everyone gasp in disbelief, no one and I mean no one should complain about corporation executives getting paid exponentially more than lower level employees. With this baseball player getting paid 700 million USD (about 70 million per year for 10 years) how much do you think the lower level employees in baseball in general and the Los Angeles Dodger specifically get paid and how exponentially more is 70 million per year than their pay. This is for playing baseball not running a worldwide corporation with thousands of employees where the senior executives need to be successful to make the corporation successful. If this baseball player does not succeed the Dodger, while losing money but is not going out of business like might happen to a corporation if the senior executives do not succeed. https://lnkd.in/efgc6FB9

Too many athletes put so much pressure on making it to the 'Big Leagues' but they arent being educated on the many different avenues one can take to still play semi professional or professional sport! There are so many different leagues athletes can play in, that still reward them with money, their dreams coming true of playing their sport at a high level, and the chance to get to the elite level as a pathway through these leagues.
