One of my highlights of tower crane planning. Lots of unique challenges, so if you look at the cranes and think ..that's weird why did he plan it like that?? There are reasons! The cranes and structure were pushed to their limits.

Rearticulating a point I’ve brought up before: The 2-story, 4 flat building is a great archetype for the transition from commercial streets to residential neighborhoods. The scale is generally acceptable to neighbors and the form can reflect the mass of the commercial street or the character of the residential street. Also, the aesthetics can be developed to compliment the context. The economics for this type of development makes it attainable by smaller developers or individual land owners. A good option for residential intensification and housing choice at a time when we need all hands on deck. #theexamplesareallaroundus #theyrealreadyhere #citybuilding

New York City has long been synonymous with towering skyscrapers and iconic skyline. However, when it comes to innovation in construction, we've been rather conservative. That's changing now, and I couldn't be more excited! For years, we've seen the city evolve with countless cranes and construction projects, but surprisingly, not much has changed in how we build buildings. That is, until recently. The first CLT apartment building at 283 Greene in Brooklyn was a groundbreaking endeavor. It wasn't without its challenges, but persistence paid off, and it's become a cherished part of the neighborhood. But the real news? New York City is finally waking up to the potential of eco-friendly mass timber construction! The New York City Economic Development Corporation has launched the Mass Timber Studio, offering $25,000 grants for design and feasibility assessments. Their goal? To make NYC a global leader in sustainable building practices, in alignment with the city's ambitious climate goals. Partners like the USDA Forest Service, the American Institute of Architects New York, and the NYC Department of Buildings are on board, committed to driving positive change in our urban landscape. They’re making it even taller. No offence to Oklahoma City but it doesn’t exactly have the hyper-dense urban dynamic known for producing supertall skyscrapers. Screw that, say Matteson Capital and AO architects. They unveiled an enormous skyscraper to much online debate and ridicule at the end of 2023, but have now increased its height from 533-metres to 581-metres and plan to make it the tallest building in the entire US, overtaking New York’s One World Trade Center. The big question jumping into your mind right now will be “why?” — and to be honest we’re not entirely sure. The tower is rising as part of a new mixed-use development called the Boardwalk at Bricktown that will include hotels, commercial, retail and residential spaces. In comments to other publishers, AO has explained that the tower is being designed in response to Oklahoma City’s growing population. The city’s current tallest skyscraper is the 257-metre Devon Tower. Take away the metric system and you realise that the height increase will bring the building up to 1,907 feet — a nod to the year that Oklahoma was granted statehood. If they wanted to go higher still, 2020 was the year that the Tiger King documentary featuring Oklahoma’s very own animal collector and independent presidential candidate Joe Exotic was released. The supertall skyscraper is yet to be approved. A closely watched project that will add more than 1,700 apartments to Jersey City’s booming Journal Square neighborhood is on the verge of two key construction milestones. Its developer, Kushner Cos., says the first phase of what’s known as One Journal Square is more than three months ahead of schedule and will top out by April, as crews complete the steel frame for the 64-story, 966-unit north tower. The firm at that point will also start vertical construction on the second phase, where plans call for another 757 units atop the podium that’s been built to support both structures. #LongMiami — Miami is undergoing a historic boom in high rise construction. Miami currently has 44 high-rises under construction. These high-rises will add 15,066 multifamily units, office SF, and other uses to the market. This data only pertains to city boundaries and doesn’t include high-rises from Sunny Isles, Miami Beach, and the rest of South Florid. Construction is when piles are driven into the ground and foundation work begins. Demolition or site clearing is not counted as construction. Under construction high-rises (More than 12 floors) in Miami’s city boundaries.
