Steve Jobs used to say that the personal computer was like a bicycle for the mind. In fact those of you who have seen the Steve Jobs movie starring Michael Fassbender , might recall the scene where he (Jobs) leans forward to convince John Sculley about the revolution the personal computer would herald. and there he mentions that the personal computer was like a bicycle for the mind. Now why did he compare it with a bicycle and not a motorbike , car or an aeroplane. The reason is simple, the bicycle ranks first in efficiency in traveling animals and machines. In fact a 1973 paper by Scientific American mentioned the consumption as 0.15 calories / gm / Km which incidentally is one fifth than that of a human walking unaided. Now consider the current situation where we are heating up the globe with our energy inefficient living - maybe its time we incorporate the bicycle in our lifestyle. No, I done mean that we start cycling to work (though I know someone who does this in Mumbai - Amol Varade actually uses a bicycle commute to his office in Lower Parel from Dombivli , a distance of approx 50 km each ways, 2 days a week )- but surely instead of always relying on quick commerce platforms to deliver something at our doorstep - we can use the bicycle. It gets the job done efficiently, improve our health and our planet's health , one pedal at a time. WhiteSpace Consulting & Capability Building https://lnkd.in/gqR3NH4q
