But few people give much deeper thought to what is behind this symbol of BMW, meaning they likely don’t know what the logo means or even what “BMW” stands for in English. So, what does BMW stand for? It stands for “Bayerische Motoren Werke” in German, or “Bavarian Motor Works” in English. There is a rich history behind that name so let’s take a closer look at the BMW meaning today with our team at BMW of West St Louis! As we said, “Bavarian Motor Works” is what “BMW” stands for in English. But how did the company get that name? Here’s a little history: Founded by Karl Rapp in 1913, the Rapp Motorenwerke company manufactured aircraft engines in Munich, Germany. They officially changed the name to Bayerische Motoren Werke in 1917 when Karl Rapp left the company. “Bayerische” (Bavarian) indicates the company’s headquarters in Bavaria, a federal state in the southeastern part of Germany bordering Austria and the Czech Republic. The full name of the company is BMW AG. “AG” stands for Aktiengesellschaft, meaning an incorporation owned by shareholders.

CATCH-22 is a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions. The #automotive industry seems to be stuck in such a dilemma. While walking to the train station this morning, I came across this monstrous, ugh, sculpture (?!) by Porsche AG. But what is the message here? 🚘 Our cars are BIGGER than yours!!! 🏭 No matter how many people glue themselves to the streets of #munich, we'll proudly continue polluting the environment and won't give a damn, yeah 💪 ! 🌇 The historic center of Munich is ugly, our #cars are beautiful! Questions over questions and most likely no answers from Porsche AG.... But back to the dilemma: Porsche (like many other traditional car companies) need to advertise and sell their very profitable combustion engine vehicles to be able to finance the transition to #emobility (which is inevitable). On the way, they contradict their own efforts by contributing massively to the problem they supposedly try to solve. Competitors like NIO get a head start as they can design their cars from scratch, without having to worry about ICE production capacities. The IAA MOBILITY once again proves to be a relict of the past. Nobody wants or needs this megalomaniac display of luxury goods without any value. Say hello to this wonderful new member of the Porsche Family: our Taycan Turbo GT! Today, we celebrated the world premiere of this car here in Leipzig, and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing! A big thanks to our great Porsche AG team for creating such an unforgettable event. Another big thanks to our expert Porsche test driver Lars Kern for his unbelievable record ride in the Taycan Turbo GT at Laguna Seca! Words alone aren’t enough to describe this benchmark drive – you really have to see the great video for yourself. The origins of the company are complex, dating back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Auto Union was acquired by Volkswagen from Daimler-Benz.[9] After relaunching the Audi brand with the 1965 introduction of the Audi F103 series, Volkswagen merged Auto Union with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969, thus creating the present-day form of the company. The company name is based on the Latin translation of the surname of the founder, August Horch. Horch, meaning "listen", becomes audi in Latin. The four rings of the Audi logo each represent one of four car companies that banded together to create Audi's predecessor company, Auto Union. In 2023, Porsche AG Group delivered. 💪 With sales revenue of €40.5 billion, operating profit of €7.3 billion and operating return on sales of 18 percent in the first year after our IPO, we delivered on our guidance and continued our profitable growth.   Of course, our shareholders will also benefit from our success. The Executive Board and Supervisory Board will propose to the Annual General Meeting a dividend payment of €2.1 billion for the past financial year – that's €2.30 per ordinary share and €2.31 per preference share.   Now, with these strong results behind us, we’re seizing the initiative anew. We’re doing this in three ways:   👉 Firstly, with our products: Our fascinating sports cars are the very heart of Porsche. With the new Panamera, all-electric Macan, Taycan and 911, 2024 marks the biggest model offensive in the history of our company. 👉 Secondly, with the positioning of our brand: Porsche is individual, exclusive and desirable. Our brand fascinates people all over the world and makes their dreams come true. 👉 Thirdly, with the transformation of our company: We’re making smart investment decisions in innovations, digitalization and sustainability. Now you can get to know me from a different angle! 🆕 Many of you probably associate me with the HELLA aftermarket. That's quite accurate. However, in addition to the aftermarket, my responsibility as Managing Director Lifecycle Solutions also includes the Special Original Equipment (SOE) division. This is where we offer specialized equipment for customer segments, such as trucks, buses and construction machinery. 🚛   What applies to both the aftermarket and SOE is that our actions always focus on specific customer needs. We’re not focused on developing the solution that will make us famous—even if that may happen! It's about developing the best solution ❗️ THAT THE CUSTOMER NEEDS. ❗️ A subtle but important difference.   How do we know what our customers want and need? By listening, asking questions and exchanging ideas. That's why I'm particularly grateful for events like Supplier Day, organized by the TRATON GROUP, a global commercial vehicle manufacturer that unites brands such as MAN Truck & Bus SE, Scania Group, @VW Trucks & Busses and Navistar Inc under one Christoph Soehnchen and I participated, . 🤝 This event is the perfect platform to work together on ideas for new solutions and innovations for the commercial vehicle industry and to gain valuable input from inspiring speakers, such as @Alexander Vlaskamp and @Christian Levin.
