I've been reflecting on what an incredible time I had at last week's UK Black Business Week and UK Black Business Show - I've met so many new people and learnt so much ! Undoubtedly, my highlight of the entire week was the closing remarks by Steven Bartlett. My top 3 key takeaways from the excellent speakers we heard from across the entire week are listed below: 1. "Every adversity is by design" Indeed, one can only learn, develop and build resilience from all adversities faced in one's journey (and this is applicable to career and life). 2. "Diversity eliminates 'blind spots' and gaps we have in our view of the world". Creating a diverse and inclusive environment isn't just the 'right thing to do' but it certainly facilitates a unique holistic view and insight into the world. 3. "100% certainty only comes in hindsight" Quick and effective decision making is essential in taking advantage of live opportunities which may not last forever! We are so grateful for everyone that helped make the 2024 Black Business Summit a smashing success! Over the course of the summit, we were privileged to hear from inspiring speakers, engage in thought-provoking discussions, and gain invaluable insights. Here are some of our favourite takeaways from the event: 1. 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬: We are all unique for a reason. When you’re building your social channels, remember the best content comes from creatives who can use a trend to their advantage. 2. 𝐁𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐈: AI is a tool that can serve as a great help but remember, when you use platforms like ChatGPT, it collects and stores your data. 3. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫: Remember, young people don’t have to be consumers of products, you have the power to make waves and make your own product! 4. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥: If you don’t know where to start, well we got news for you. Just start. You’re going to trip and fall along the way but the best thing you can do is just get back up and keep striving for excellence We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Black Opportunity Fund for their unwavering support, which enabled us to award two first-place prizes of $25,000 each and $2,500 to each runner-up. Their example inspired additional contributions, resulting in a total of $69,500 distributed among our winners and finalists. This milestone demonstrates the power of collective action and has fostered collaboration and support within the Black Business Community.
