If you are part of the growing pickleball community and want to integrate functional mobility training into your training regimen, read this! Being able to play pickleball requires you to have outstanding dynamic balance to be able to hit the ball precisely on the move, adequate hamstring and glute strength to be able to quickly move up and down the court, coordination with lateral movements, and dynamic shoulder strength to hit those tough backhands! Here are some exercises to help. • Forehand and Backhand shots on the Bosu Balance are a great drill to challenge your proprioceptive system while maintaining the ability to hit solid forehand and backhand shots. • Single Leg Barbell RDLs are a great way to target the hamstrings and gluteal muscles that help us accelerate forward when you need to hit those short drop shots! • Lateral Step-Ups with ball slam is a drill that requires agility and coordination. This drill will translate onto the court to help you move left and right more swiftly and with control. • Single-leg body blade Flexion/Extension is a great activity to increase dynamic stability at the shoulder, specifically the internal and external rotators of the shoulder. Improving the Hurdling Technique involves mastering both the Lead & Trail Leg movements to ensure fluid and efficient clearance over each hurdle. Here are some drills and tricks that will offer targeted practice to your students so they can master them. The Hurdle Slides drill focuses on the trail leg's technique. After propelling the body over the hurdle, it's crucial to bring the trail leg from behind the body through to a high knee position efficiently. Therefore, by setting up a hurdle on a slant, your students will be able to practice sliding their foot up the hurdle and lift the knee right up to the armpit rather than swinging the leg around inefficiently. This is instrumental in achieving a high knee position essential for a smooth hurdle clearance and immediate transition into the running phase. Once your students are comfortable with the trail leg motion, you can then integrate the lead leg technique with hurdle walk-overs. Hip extension before knee extension timing ⏰ If the knee starts to extend too early, this can lead to a host of problems: ❌ Needing to extend/arch through the low back in order to get the stance leg behind us ❌ Losing control over our center of gravity ❌ Rib cage flaring excessively ❌ Poor ability to swing leg through after it extends, which compromises then the next step To fix this, sometimes simple coaching cues are helpful. Such as in sprinting to focus on a shin angle change/dropping lower to the floor as they move forward. This helps them achieve a better mid and late stance position. A question that most athletes often ask me when we are working: When are we start to add weights? The answer is simple: when you can do two more reps in your last set of the exercise and do them two sessions after each other An example to clarify ⬇️ -If you are playing on leg extension device, 3 sets of 10 reps to strengthen the Quad, and in the third set you did 12 reps, and the next session you did the same thing, so we must start gaining weight. How much of this will we provide? It varies from one person to another and depends on whether we trained upper or lower limbs

The prep work is used to get the athlete mentally and physically ready, prior to performing the bigger drills. We did six prep drills on the day. The six drills covered: one touch passing, directional touches to space, single leg stability, movement off the ball, awareness/rhythm/timing, and speed/power/change of direction. You can almost use reverse engineering when programming. Think about the theme of your session. What are the main drills your client wants to work on?
