Having recently concluded my full-time summer tenure as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), I wish to share the valuable social insights I've gained during these past few months in my Applied Behavior Analysis journey.
First and foremost, I want to emphasize the significance of "pairing." Establishing a genuine connection with our clients stands as a paramount task for an RBT. Devoting time to nurture this connection throughout sessions is pivotal. It not only aids in achieving instructional control but also provides opportunities to closely observe our clients and their behaviors, allowing us to identify crucial factors such as precursors and more.
Secondly, effective communication is indispensable within the clinic setting. Whether it involves interactions with clients, fellow RBTs, our BCBA regarding client BIPs or session goals, our Operations Manager for scheduling, or engaging in conversations with clients' parents about their well-being, maintaining open lines of communication is essential. This practice ensures the smooth execution of sessions and demonstrates our commitment to meeting our clients' needs comprehensively.
Lastly, dedicating our utmost effort to our role is of utmost importance. This profession goes beyond the confines of a conventional 9-5 job. The work we invest during sessions is profoundly impactful, directly influencing the progress our clients make in ABA. Witnessing their growth and achievements, resulting from our diligent efforts, can truly make our entire day.
In summary, my journey in ABA has been profoundly rewarding, and I am deeply appreciative of the opportunity to continue evolving in this field. I am committed to absorbing every nugget of knowledge available, with the overarching goal of enhancing my role as an ABA therapist, a student, and, most importantly, as a person.
