An “honest” sales person is an oxymoron The majority of people do not trust the words that are coming out of our mouths Let me explain, as a BMW technician I got flagged dozens of times for not recommending more services to customers. A BMW Service Writer’s (sales person) paycheck was directly tied to how many repairs I would recommend. I was unwilling to list things that the customer didn’t need. So I eventually quit. When I got the opportunity to manage a dealerships sales and repair departments, I decided to do things differently. Every vehicle we put up for sale, we made a list of everything we did to prepare it for sale and everything the vehicle still needed. We taped that list to the window. Every vehicle we took in for repair, we recorded a video of the fault to show the customer and once they ok’ed the repair, we fixed it and recorded a video of the finished product. This is what it took to overcome the stigma in the automotive world. Our sales increased by 23% that first year. We must build tangible trust with people we expect to do business with. Want to become automotive sales advisor? Consider these before applying. 1. Stock availability (no stock equals to no income) 2. Management's reliability (more often than not, they decide your car allocation--hence point number 1) 3. Brand (potential customers most of the time are bias toward certain brands) 4. Payment (find out how long it takes for commission payout--some take months so be prepared financially) 5. Commission structure (best to find out early on so that you can forecast your income) 6. Location (some cars--EVs for example--may not have a strong presence in less-developed areas so it is harder to generate sales) 7. Working hours (some require full time commitment, some don't.
