Through the transformative medium of art, we aimed to raise cancer awareness while filling the day with creativity and joy. Each brushstroke and smile reflected the resilience and strength of these remarkable children. Together, we worked towards a brighter, more hopeful future, showing that art can be a powerful source of hope and healing. The challenges facing cancer outcomes are deeply intertwined with societal inequities, requiring a multifaceted approach to ensure equitable cancer outcomes. From systemic racism and discrimination to economic barriers and access issues in healthcare, these factors significantly impact individuals' abilities to engage effectively with cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survival strategies. The path to equitable cancer care demands a concerted, intentional effort toward dismantling these barriers and adopting a framework of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This approach must be patient-centered, listening to and incorporating the experiences and needs of those affected by cancer, including patients, caregivers, and their communities, ensuring that every step towards fighting cancer is taken together, leaving no one behind. Few are better suited to lead this important national initiative. Nadine Barrett, PhD, MA, MS, you can count on St. Elizabeth Healthcare to be right there with you. Tracy N. S. One of our goals at Black Women Thriving East of the River is to reduce disparities in cancer morbidity and mortality for Black women in Wards 7 & 8 of the District of Columbia. We are interested in understanding what services and supports are currently provided, at various institutions across DC, to help people with abnormal cancer screenings or those diagnosed with cancer, manage and navigate treatment and care resources. In our Cancer Patient Support and Navigation Survey, we're asking for people who provide these navigating services to share with us where those services and support currently are. If you are someone who provides any of these services, please help us by completing the survey linked below. #patientnavigation https://lnkd.in/eFTRbkjT

Today is World Cancer Day, and this year's theme is CLOSE THE CARE GAP. Who you are, and where you live, should not impact your cancer care. Yet right now, income, education, geographical location and discrimination based on ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability and lifestyle are just a few of the factors that can negatively affect care. I am one of the lucky few. I had access to the latest treatments and fantastic support from family, friends and colleagues both in 2020, when I was treated for breast cancer, and in 2023, when we found an ultra rare form of bone cancer, chondrosarcoma, in the base of my skull. I am beyond grateful. However, the equity gap in cancer care is costing lives. On this World Cancer Day, please spend just ten minutes reading about the issues facing cancer patients around the world here: https://lnkd.in/eh6rktjT What can you do to help? #worldcancerday #closethecaregap #cancerawareness #workingwithcancer
