Meet Mark Fleming, DEI's Director of Quality Assurance, who has been with the company for nearly 34 years since joining in October 1990 after completing his graduate studies at Virginia Tech. Mark has played a meaningful role in DEI's transformation from a small consulting firm into a multifaceted organization specializing in R&D, hardware development, process technologies, and field services. As the driving force behind DEI's quality initiatives, he oversees the 10CFR50 App. B/NQA-1/10CFR21 QA program and the ISO 9001 Quality Management System. Mark works closely with the management team and clients, ensuring that the company not only meets but exceeds its quality commitments. Inspired by his love for math and science, Mark's mechanical engineering and materials science journey transitioned from technical work to quality management as the company grew. He values collaborating with his talented colleagues, who have become like family and takes pride in DEI's positive impact on customers. Mark is passionate about his family, music, and sports outside of work, continuing to play soccer and performing with his band, Jack Astronaut, in the DC/MD/VA area.

𝗤𝗥𝗤𝗖 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴: The process of problem-solving requires much effort and time from the Team. Problem-solving teams sometimes spend more than three months resolving an issue. Many organizations avoid applying these approaches & instead focus on correction activities to save Time / Effort. Further, it's impossible to stop a production line for an extended period of time & carry out a complete problem-solving process. In order to overcome this problem, the QRQC Approach was developed. 𝗤𝗥𝗤𝗖 “𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹” one of the fastest, most effective problem-solving approaches developed by Nissan in the late 90s, taking inspiration from Toyota’s TQM & Lean production systems. It provides a standardized approach to problem-solving that enables CFTs to quickly & and effectively resolve quality issues. It typically involves a team of members from support departments or areas of expertise who work together. It aims to resolve each problem by involving the closest individuals to it, at the lowest level of the management hierarchy possible. One of the main principles of the QRQC is 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗮, 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗯𝘂𝘁𝘀𝘂, 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗶𝘁𝘀𝘂. These principles ensure that every step taken toward fixing the problem is accurate, quick, & effective.

Wow! What an incredible month August has been! I have made some exciting changes in my professional journey, transitioning from my tool belt to my schoolboy leather satchel. My goal to expand Forbes & Son into the commercial contracting world while still maintaining a strong presence in the domestic market has led me on a fascinating path of business readiness. During this process, I have gained valuable insights on what it takes to tender for a contract and showcase our capabilities. Here's a snapshot of what I've been up to: - Conducting a thorough revision of our business model - Developing and updating various policies to align with industry standards - Formulating action plans to implement these policies effectively - Creating a comprehensive Quality Management plan in the absence of ISO9001 certification - Participating in supplier development programme webinars to enhance our knowledge and skills - Submitting a tender for a framework contract opportunity - Engaging and connecting with like-minded individuals and construction professionals for networking and knowledge-sharing - Successfully opening two new domestic sites and applying our newfound knowledge - Decided to relax at the weekend and made a dog kennel (Fail). I would be thrilled to hear about other people's experiences on their journey towards progress. For me, this month has felt like a thrilling ride, where I've unleashed my potential and embraced new opportunities. I'm excited to be on the path I have paved for myself. I think i still have bugs in my teeth!

Quality Manager | ISO 9001:2015 | BRC Packaging and Packaging Materials Iss. 6 | AS 9100 Rev. D | Lead Auditor | KPI Setting | Problem Solving | Change Management | CIP | QMS | Culture Change | Risk Management
You often see it quoted that Quality is free, but as this post indicates it is people’s attitude that can cost a business. To change this it is important to: 1. Engage with the workforce. 2. Relevant training. 3. Documentation (procedures, SOPs, forms etc.) that is precise, clear, and unambiguous, describing how a task is done, when it should be done, who should do it, and any safety requirements. 4. Ensure the workforce are aware of defects and the causes. 5. Use technology for inspection. 6. Identifying risks and putting robust controls in place. 7. Equipment is fit for use and well maintained. The list can go on, but communication is key. Not trying to sound cliche, but quality has to be carried out by everyone in the company, real commitment and investment from the senior management team and workforce understanding exactly what is expected of them so that quality isn’t seen as something additional but just part of the process.

Register right now to secure your ticket: https://lnkd.in/eatCXUHC Get ready to be captivated, motivated, and moved, as we dive headfirst into a world of Precision in Practice: The Human Element of Quality with Matthew Triplett on November 15, 2023. Matthew will discuss why he firmly believes that perfection is a driving force for progress? Can we genuinely grasp the intricacies of our field without contemplating abstract concepts? Is it possible to navigate the labyrinth of quality control while embracing the inherent complexity within ourselves? Two decades ago, I set forth on this expedition into the vast realm of Quality as a machinist, accumulating nearly 50,000 hours of hands-on experience. While this background undoubtedly provides its advantages, I soon realized the extent of my own naiveté within this world. Over time, I've come to understand that quality management isn't about reinventing the wheel; instead, it's about embracing the voyage itself. During our time together, I aim to share my personal experiences, including the challenges I've faced, the 'a-ha' moments that have illuminated my path, and the transformative changes I've undergone. But, we won't merely scratch the surface; we'll delve into profound questions that challenge conventional thinking. Join me as we explore these questions and embark on a journey that transcends the ordinary, offering fresh insights into the world of quality management.
