If you have wondered what I’m doing next. I’m opening a Direct Specialty Care* practice in the Omaha area. I’ll have several outreach clinics and a central procedural office. I’ll be partnering alongside a local surgeon who has a medical ethical and passion similar to my own. We like the tough cases! I will be focusing on ultrasound (US) musculoskeletal (MSK) diagnostics, US treatments, and US procedures that are not widely performed in the surrounding areas. I want to focus on non-operative treatments (all evidence-based) for conditions that are not widely cared for and not covered by insurance due to determination of “experimental” status…again even though they are all evidence-based. Many of you know that I specialize in hip pain, buttock pain, pelvic pain, peripheral nerve pain and impingements, neural and vascular thoracic outlet syndrome, and sciatic nerve assessment and interventions. These will be my primary focus while other things will be considered on a case by case basis. I will be part-time for the foreseeable future. Again, more details to come! More info coming soon! I found many patients were unable to afford certain treatments and/or insurance wouldn’t pay for them anyway; with the outrageous high deductible plans that most persons are using due to rising costs of medical insurance. I will be opting out of CMS as well, and won’t be able to accept any CMS patients until late 2025. I’ll explain more later.

Ever wondered what the final steps of opening a pharmacy are? I'm currently working on Cridge Pharmacy 4 so I think I'm starting to understand this process a bit... This is the very end of the process working backwards from opening day! -Target opening day June 15th 2024! -The last thing we need to do before opening day is complete our 3rd party provider agreements (there are 10ish main insurance providers in Canada, the applications can take anywhere between 1-2 weeks to complete and are often 50+ pages long). -Before you apply for your 3rd party provider status you need to register with Pharmacare + set up your access to Pharmanet -Before you register with Pharmacare you need to have your college license -To get your college licence you need to meet the physical requirements of a pharmacy. There are no less than 60 pictures that need to be taken of the pharmacy for the digital inspection. The items in those pictures are things like scales, weights, graduated cylinders, policy and procedure manuals, garbage cans, sharps disposal, shredding capabilities etc. -Before you apply for your college license you need to get your business license from your municipality -Before you apply for your business license you need to have your occupancy permit -Before your occupancy permit you need to have final building inspections from the municipal building inspector, architect, and all engineers -Before you have your final inspection you need your plumber and electrician come to do their finishing work (installing sinks, electrical outlet covers etc) -Before your electrician and plumber come your counters need to be installed (2 weeks after the cabinets go in). Once you have your counters in you can get your pharmacy management system installed (Kroll). This isn't the whole list from start to finish, but it feels like the most important part. Every task is completely dependant on the task before it. Theorectically all of these things could progress in unison (working on the college pictures as we work on the business license while we work on pharmacare and the provider agreements etc) but unfortunately that isn't the world we live in! This process typically means that pharmacies will sit fully finished ready to go for weeks while all of these processes run their course. It's an interesting and often unseen part of the industry! 🧠 (2/11) BizDev - "What counts as non-clinical experience, but in the clinic?" Got this question from a #nursepractitioner contemplating all the different career options available, so over the next few weeks I'll be highlighting different things we do in clinic to help translate for the rest of the clinical community! Full series here: https://lnkd.in/gMEhCbuj 1) Business Development ("BizDev" or "BD") simply means growing your business by acquiring new customers. 2) There are several subcomponents to this piece - Sales, Account Management, and Partnerships are just some of the different roles/titles. 3) Think of BD as a "funnel" - different BD roles do different things (and different companies define the parts of the "funnel" differently, and have different names for the roles within each part of the funnel!) - Each part of the funnel has different skills and expectations! But, as an example, in some companies: 1️⃣ "Top of the funnel" involves identifying potential customers and scheduling initial interest meetings. "Sales Development Representative" or "SDR" could sit here. 2️⃣ "Bottom of the funnel" involves moving from initial interest meetings to closing the sale. "Account Executives" or "Solutions Engineers" could sit here. But, sometimes, SDRs can be responsible for managing the whole funnel too! If we think of it this way - let's add some experiences from clinic into this framework: 🤝 Meeting physicians, nurse practitioners, and other potential referral sources if you're an allied health professional = business development (top of funnel) 💰 Negotiating new yearly insurance contracts = business development (bottom of funnel) - remember, healthcare is a B2B business. Clinicians receive money from insurance in most cases (even though the "end user" is a patient, and patient's have co-pays/deductibles/coinsurance which can muddy up the fiscal flow) 🗣 Creating community outreach initiatives (like volunteering your time at a little league baseball injury awareness clinic) = top of funnel I'm no expert, but these people are: - Greg Martinez, PT, DPT - Brady Flynn PT, DPT 👉 As you're exploring the 2400+ roles on Next Degree be sure to think about which BD bits of your clinical role you really liked (and didn't!) as you explore what others call the things you do in clinic every day!
