Did you know that Nagaland, is a lot more going on than you might think? Nagaland, covering a whopping 73% of its land with lush jungles, is a hub for heavy plywood manufacturing. Interestingly, it's where the journey of India's famous plywood company, Greenply, began. Aircraft engines, magnets, hard disks, and cassette tapes, none of are produced here, but the key ingredient, cobalt, needed for their production, is sourced right here in Nagaland, with a staggering production of 50 lakh tonnes. Nagaland is also home to the world's spiciest chili, the ghost pepper, which is not only produced here but is also exported worldwide. With 600 million metric tons of crude oil reserves and over 650 species of medicinal and aromatic plants, Nagaland is a treasure trove for scented oil production and large-scale organic honeymaking, thanks to its rich biodiversity. #ProgressByInnovation: Does the UNIDO's #PortraitsOfProsperity propaganda campaign tell or hide the truth? Do UNIDO Brussels Office and the Project Manager (Head of #UNIDO Regional Office in #Ethiopia) try to hide something from European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) eyes? 1. The #EU taxpayers through European Union have spent on the project EUR 7. 850 million during its pre-financing and financing stage. The Project Manager has been responsible to deliver / complete it in 4 years / 48 months, e.g. with ending date April 2022. It means that project has already failed to meet the approved deadline some 2 years ago, and time-wise still continues failing with its ever-evolving completion date. 2. Where has all the money gone? For instance, how much was spent on the Project Manager and #UNIDO staff travel, how much the EU taxpayers contributed to UNIDO staff / associates salaries and direct costs generated in Vienna ... ? A touching portrait / an individual success story can not be a substitute of transparent financial reporting and evaluation, can it? 3. According to original project documents signed in 2016 by UNIDO DG and the EU, it is for the UNIDO Office of Evaluation and Internal Oversight (Director and Chiefs) that should feed #OLAF with evaluation and tangible results data, including reasons of the original deadline failure. Did independent or internal evaluation happen when the Leather Initiative for Sustainable Employment Creation (#LISEC) failed its final delivery, as expected by April 2022 ? 4. Indeed, it is quite touchable, and surely everyone should be absolutely happy, to see even one #Ethiopian family that through generous European Commission funding has life standards improved, dreams of even one man have being fulfilled. But what about EUR 7.85 million ? What does the UNIDO's #PortraitsOfProsperity propaganda campaign sweep under the carpet? 5. Ethiopia, the location of the first #PortraitsOfProsperity episode, has the second largest population in Africa after Nigeria, however, it also remains one of the poorest countries, and torn apart by severe political and military conflicts.
