Did you know? Canine programs can be an important part of an individual’s rehabilitation. These programs use human-animal association and the disciplines involved in these connections to give positive gain in areas such as vocational skills, anger management, decision-making, responsibility and empathy. Domesti-PUPS is a Lincoln-based organization that provides therapy dogs, service dogs, and obedience-trained rescue dogs. Individuals at multiple NDCS facilities partner with Domesti-PUPS to prepare these dogs for the fur-ever homes. #TransformNebraska #Programs

"What do you do when not developing?" I spend most of my time with my rescue dogs. What Does It Take to Get Your L Plates as an Assistance Dog in Training at Integra? To become an assistance dog in training at Integra, the prospective dog must demonstrate calmness and be settled (non-reactive) in busy and noisy settings as well as to external stimuli. Additionally, the dog should be well-socialised with other canines and humans, meaning it does not solicit attention from others. We are looking for young pedigree Labrador dogs that display no signs of aggression or anxiety. We also assess the dog's biddability, which refers to the dog being easily led and responsive to training techniques; essentially, the young dog should be a motivated and keen learner. We look for dogs that display affection and are comfortable with body contact as part of their activity/training. This means the dog should like or seek contact with its handler/trainer. Shelters and rescue groups are overcrowded. A conveyor belt approach in moving dogs out and into homes without due diligence in background checks and home visits when possible isn't the solution. It often perpetuates the problem. After the newness of a new family member grows old, I'm here to offer practical solutions to situations that often feel catastrophic at the moment. Before returning your dog to the place he just left because you are overwhelmed... well, that's one of the things I do. Many responsible breed-specific rescue groups adopt within a pre-determined area. Here's one reason...
