Who are you supporting at UEFA EURO 2024? ⚽️🏆 Research conducted by economist Patricio DALTON and his colleagues has demonstrated that teams without the presence of their supporters are 20% more likely to lose. This study underscores the significant influence of moral support on performance, even in contexts where high monetary incentives are present. The implications of this research extend beyond the realm of football. Dalton: “We suspect that moral support will be even more consequential in settings with lower monetary incentives, but this is still an open question.” Read more about the impact of moral support here: https://lnkd.in/eb4R5-D4 #Football #Euro2024

Euro 2024 kicks off this Friday, and that means another few weeks where our emotions get pulled from optimism, dismay, exhilaration to ultimately sadness. (Unless Southgate pulls a blinder this time?) I've already added all the England games in my calendar, and UEFA have put together a cracking fixtures list for all teams that you can download from their site. The Right Back....... And like that after one month of good FUTBOL, the Euro24 is finished and the best team WON. UEFA has released the Best XI of the tournament and surprisingly the best right back in the world....you know, he only has 6 UCLs..... is not in that line up..... Instead we can see Kyle Walker, which by the way is another great right back. As it has been the norm over the last few week, we have the opportunity to use the data provided by SICS.sport and Sports Data Campus to complete an analysis on both players. Should Daniel Carvajal be on the Best XI? Let's data talk by itself. #scissport #sportdatacampus #theeuroofdata #laeurodelosdatos #euro2024

Multiple reports suggest the introduction of a blue card in upcoming sin-bin trials, approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). This marks the first addition to the cards used in the sport since the iconic yellow and red cards were introduced at the 1970 World Cup. One notable reason for receiving a blue card is dissent. This raises a critical question: Do football players consistently show enough respect towards referees? Unfortunately, instances of disrespectful or unsportsmanlike conduct towards referees do occur. Verbal abuse, offensive language, insults, and open disagreement with decisions through gesturing, arguing, or protesting are not uncommon. Considering that referees are just doing their job, the introduction of the blue card seems like a positive step towards safeguarding their well-being. It prompts us to reflect on the broader issue of respecting referees in the sport. What are your thoughts on this development? Share your insights below! ⚽️🔵 #Football #RefereeRespect #BlueCard #IFAB #Sportsmanship

Of course it is abhorrent, and while Europe often prides itself on being unlike those 'crude Americans,' the blatant #racism at (soccer) football matches is almost impossible to ignore. True, Jackie Robinson was booed; Henry Aaron received death threats, the early #NBA teams had their quotas, Black #NFL head coaches are finally being taken seriously and on and on. The point: our society, by and large, has moved beyond outright cat-calls and bigotry. Fans no longer tolerate that crap. Some don't want to move from their stupidity, we get that, but we have clearly advanced beyond 1947 when Robinson looked for one ally. FIFA is trying to do its best but they should not discount the societal ignorance that spawns these acts. If 50,000 football fans in an Italian stadium are polite and considerate, and 200 are #racist, #antisemitic or #homophobic why is it not possible to stop the match and permanently throw them out? Even if authorities miss 90% of the idiots, escorting 10% out in handcuffs sends a message. Given the advances in technology, including AI we can't grasp why this isn't happening...unless our enlightened brethren across the ocean are too timid, and at heart, too unethical to take action. If its happening on the Italian or British pitch, it is undoubtedly happening in factories, schools, healthcare facilities and academia. Ending it starts with ending it. https://lnkd.in/e9xHcWMW

Zvonimir Boban - a class act as a player and as a football executive. Wish we had more leaders who stood by their principles. - "Despite having expressed my deepest concern and total disapproval, the Uefa president does not consider there to be any legal issues with the proposed changes, let alone any moral or ethical ones, and he intends to move forward regardless in pursuit of his personal aspirations," he said. "Ironically, it was the Uefa president himself that proposed and launched a set of reforms in 2017 which were introduced to prevent such a possibility. "These rules were designed to protect Uefa and European football from the 'bad governance' which for years had unfortunately been the 'modus operandi' of what is often referred to as the 'old system' of football governance. "The reforms were to football's great credit, and that of the Uefa president. His shift away from these values is beyond comprehension. "I fully appreciate that nothing is ideal, let alone myself, and at times compromises may be necessary. However, being party to this would go against all the principles and values I wholeheartedly believe in and stand for. "I am not trying to be some sort of hero, especially as I am not alone in my thinking here. - #leadership #football #soccer #uefa #fifa
