During a training today we touched on the topic of motivators. I shared a provoking perspective and I'm curious to hear what this network things about it.
In the top 10 motivators identified in an internal survey of a leading consultancy there was mention of "Competitive salary".
We had an interesting conversation about remuneration. We touched on intrinsic & extrinsic motivators and looked at how they can have long vs short term impact.
With that in mind, to build a healthy culture, someone should not support requests of competitive salary as that's an extrinsic motivator.
At that point someone shared how everyone wants a high remuneration, so it should be given. That it's smart for a company to offer it.
After a brief back & forth I suggested how I believe that we shouldn't always give employees what they ask referring at how an ever increasing remuneration can trigger toxic dynamics within the organisation.
I am interested in insights from both people who can share expert thoughts on this topic and people who are just having an emotional reaction, of any kind, to my suggestion.
Looking forward to reading your opinions.
For once, feel free to inflame the thread (while always remaining respectful of everyone's opinion) if this is something you are passionate about 🔥
