If SpaceX is serious about using Starship for point to point transport around earth, which has previously been advertised, then I can only imagine what the liability would be. ⛓️💥 How do you account for the risk of damage to a payload from the very physics of the transportation technique (assuming it remains securely in place)? ⛓️💥 What about the risk of damage when the payload becomes unsecured within the vehicle? These and more issues will become more pressing as the technology matures. Space lawyers are already out there anticipating and managing these risks for the industry. Since a few years my consciousness and knowledge about #climatechange and the need for #mitigation and #adaptation is constantly developing. One result is that I automatically think of consequences on our planet caused by my actions. Many behaviours I changed over the last years, many others not. As someone who is fueled by #innovation, #progress and development, #technology always has been fascinating to me and I am a strong advocate of the thesis that driving innovation is part of our role as humans in the #evolution cycle. But, reading about impressive invention successes like that of #spacex more and more raise questions and concerns if we set our priorities right. In 2023 SpaceX launched around 90 #falcon9 rockets. This caused more or less 22,500 tons of CO2 (200-300 Tons per start) - comparable to 22,500 flights from Frankfurt to New York. Take another example: All #datacenters worldwide together have an energy demand like countries the size and population of Italy. This demand will rise enormously due to the high demand of energy for #AI training and execution. Like in all #businessmodels, also and especially in #IT we will see much more focus on climate impact. And it will become relevant for more and more companies even just "using" IT - as soon as they have to collect and report data within the #ESG / #scope3 reportings. If we would use these new technological capabilities for climate change mitigation and adaptation, it could be quite useful. Reality is that our system as a whole is probably only changing if it is being forced to by heavily changing environment. I assume only then #paradigms will change. Dynamic times and wild rides ahead...

We're likely still a month or so away from the next launch of SpaceX's Starship megarocket. That was the timeline Elon Musk offered in a post on X over the weekend, saying Starship's next test flight is "probably 3 to 5 weeks" away. "Objective is for the ship to get past max heating, or at least further than last time," the billionaire entrepreneur added. The 400-foot-tall (122 meters) Starship is the biggest and most powerful rocket ever built.
