As someone who has worked for years on this very topic with various digital health organizations, I agree with Newman-Toker who stated... “[With the] absence [of] carefully crafted regulations, innovative payment incentives, and new research resources directed to overcome key barriers to successful deployment of high-quality AI systems, risks will dominate.” We have to make sure that we are not creating digital health innovative tools and systems with blinders on. We have to demand equitable care that is compliant while keeping a human lens. It's generally recognised that there has been a massive increase of personal health care data available over the past few years, but no systematic method of pooling that data for the benefit of the individual.
