What are the Effie Awards about? Are they about momentary glory? Do they also create some sort of envy? What about learning opportunities? Maybe it is just a competition? But couldn't they be more than that? Of course, the idea of Effie is built upon all of above. But in particular, Effie is an opportunity for the marketing and communications community to get inspired to create more efficient and creative campaigns and a unique opportunity to celebrate these campaigns together. Effie encourages mutual appreciation, fair play, and validates successful campaigns. The marketing and communications community has gone through significant changes over the years, but it has never given up on asserting itself or celebrating its achievements. This year's Effie Gala will be about celebrating a job well done that we can all learn from. The Effie Awards are about a mature, constructive, and open community learning to transcend individual egos for the common good. A couple of weeks ago, I joined the judging panel for Effie Awards Europe. It was my first time judging this show and I had the amazing job of judging multi-market and positive change entries. Few things struck me: 🇺🇦 A lot of the work under the positive change category focussed on drawing attention to the war in Ukraine; it was incredibly moving to read about the power of creativity to stir public opinion, and illuminate the unimaginable humanitarian crisis on the ground there. I'd love to collaborate with any brands who are contemplating activating the advocate brand within as it's super inspiring work. 🎻 Execution-allly speaking, the diversity of channels was still quite limited. The entries that demonstrated how they orchestrated omni-channel strategy and even leveraged experimental channels saw that bet pay off in their results. Kudos to those who paid special attention to complexity, and fragmentation of their audience(s). 🎩 If I put my skeptical hat on for a minute, the first part of the entry is to establish the challenge and argue that the ambition, and subsequent objectives and KPIs are suitably challenging. This was probably the most underwhelming part of most papers... there were lots of arguments like "we did £10m in sales last year and times are tough so the challenge this year is to do £9M".. call me a harsh marker but aren't the Effies supposed to be for the 'most effective' creative work in our industry... not the 'sort of okay' work that may or may not have moved the needle.. We will have to wait and see who takes out the top gongs when the final round of judging is complete soon, but I'm hoping those businesses with the biggest ambitions and creativity win out. #Creative #Effectiveness #Effies #PostiveChange

Earlier this month, Senior Account Manager Rebecca McLaren competed in the Cannes Young Lions Globe Media Group competition. Given just 24 hours to flip a brief for the media category, she and her partner embraced the opportunity to showcase their industry expertise. Read Rebecca's takeaways below! 🦁 *** Win or lose, Young Lions was an opportunity for myself and my partner to fully own a plan from start to finish. Not only did it put our industry knowledge to the test, but it also challenged us creatively and allowed us to dream up blue-sky ideas for an important cause, reinforcing what I love most about my field of work. Here are just a few things I learned throughout the competition: 1. Take time to think independently. The first thing my partner and I did when we got the brief was read it individually and take our own notes. While a lot of our initial thoughts ended up being the same, we each pulled a few nuggets the other hadn't thought about, helping us avoid groupthink and leading to a stronger end result. 2. Don't rush into a solution. The pressure of a 24-hour turnaround had my partner and I itching to "crack the case," but we knew that careful research of our target and a thoughtful insight were what would best lead us there. Though we became set on a potential solution early on and didn't expect ourselves to budge, once the final insight came together, we challenged ourselves to reassess the fit and (unsurprisingly) came up with an idea we loved even more! 3. Write to edit. With a 10-slide maximum and no guaranteed ability to present our deck, my partner and I made an effort to be deliberate about the final copy we chose to include and how it was written. While we were excited about our idea and could see it coming to life, we consistently asked ourselves if everything we were talking about was there in the deck - and if it was being articulated as clearly as it could be.

As I scrolled through LinkedIn on the 2nd of Oct. 2023, I stumbled upon the #TibaAwards nomination post, a surge of ambition washed over me. I found myself on the nomination page, ready to nominate myself for an award. Yet, in that crucial moment, I paused. I remembered my "why" - the core values that guide my brand. ⚠️There is nothing wrong with nominating oneself for an award but it clashed with my brand goals. I Choose authenticity to always be my guiding star. You should know that It's not just about the awards we receive but the integrity with which we pursue them.
