🍋 When life hands me lemons, I'm the one to whip up the lemonade 🍋 It's been two years of challenges, and two years of embracing a new stage of life. The practice of resilience, leading people in the most unpredictable environment, keeping the network running, finding new sense after totally breaking the life wheel. Each day brings a new challenge, and at the same time, a flexible mindset helps to dream again and climb new mountains. 💼 I'm thrilled to share that I'm currently enrolled in the Executive MBA program at Hult International Business School. Being on the Hult Dean's List for the Fall 2023 term has been a true honour, a testament to the dedication and hard work I've put into this journey. 🌍 Each month, I have the privilege of engaging with my incredible cohort—professionals from diverse backgrounds and corners the globe. 🎓 A Week at MIT Sloan  Last week, I had the opportunity to revisit my alma mater, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was just seven months after graduating from the prestigious Sloan Fellows program at the MIT Sloan School of Management, and I found myself breaking away from my usual routine, leaving my family and work behind, to dive back into the academic world during the winter semester. And I still ask myself, why would someone in their mid-40s (and their right mind), who has already invested $300,000 and paused real life last year for a dream, do it again? The answer is simply that irresistible values are what drive me. It's choosing growth over comfort, curiosity over wealth, and seizing the moment over waiting for the 'right time.' It's about surrounding myself with people who motivate me to push beyond my limits. Being among the world's most accomplished, self-motivated individuals reminds me of what striving for excellence truly means. What got you here Two years ago - at the invitation of the World Economic Forum - I had the privilege to join fellow Young Global Leaders to attend an #Executive Education Program at #Harvard Kennedy School. We learned a lot about Global Leadership in the 21st Century. I will never forget a comment David Rubinstein made: “What Got You Here Won’t Get You There.“ And he is right. The skills, knowledge, and strategies that have brought you to your current position are valuable, but they may not be enough to propel you to the next level. In an ever-evolving world, lifelong learning is a necessity. It’s the fuel that drives personal growth. By continually learning, we keep our skills relevant, our minds sharp, and our performance at its peak. Lifelong learning is about more than just acquiring new skills. It’s about cultivating a mindset of curiosity and openness, a willingness to question, reflect, explore, and push boundaries. It’s about understanding that there’s always more to learn and more to discover. As you climb the career ladder, the challenges become more complex. The technical skills that served you well in your early career might not be enough as you move into leadership roles. You’ll need to develop new skills, such as strategic thinking, people management, communication, and emotional intelligence. You’ll need to shed old habits and ways of thinking, and embrace new ones that will help you succeed in your new role. Career progression is a journey, not a destination. It’s about who you become in the process, not just the title you earn or the salary you make. What I have been seeing while observing some of the best CEOs, some of the best board members, some of the best lawyers, some of the best entrepreneurs: To get “there“ and not stay “here“ you also need to create the right environment. It will not suffice to work on our own skill set, we also need to surround ourselves with curious, fun lifelong learners who challenge us with kindness. And finally: Never walk alone. Rather, imagine a board room full of lifelong learners who support each other in the journey! 🌟 Reflecting on My MBA Journey at the College of William and Mary 🌟 As I look back on my time in the MBA program, there are three things I'd like to bring up as part of my experience that I feel are worth sharing. 1. Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day The first major lesson that success and meaningful achievements don’t happen overnight. Quick fixes are almost always short-lived and not built for longevity. Whether it’s a project, a career, a degree, or a personal challenge, patience and persistence are vital to success. The journey might be long and challenging, but the rewards are worth the wait. Exactly why it is important to enjoy the journey along the way. 2. The Power of Community While it’s possible to forge a path on your own, it’s much more fulfilling and manageable with a community of support. During my MBA, I was fortunate to be surrounded by incredible peers, mentors, and professors who not only supported me but also made the experience richer and more enjoyable. Building and nurturing a strong network is crucial—it’s not just about getting through; it’s about thriving together. Additionally I'd be remise if I didn't give a shoutout to my wife and daughter who supported me and held me up in my lowest moments. 3. Embrace Imperfection and Take Action The MBA program equipped me with a wealth of knowledge, but it also highlighted that it is impossible to have all the answers. There’s always more to learn, and waiting for perfect information can lead to analysis paralysis. Sometimes, you need to trust your instincts, leverage the knowledge you have, and take action. It’s about making informed decisions with the majority of the information, not waiting for every last detail. These lessons have not only defined my MBA journey but will continue to guide me as I move forward. I’m grateful for the experience and excited to apply these insights in my career and beyond. 🎓 This past weekend marked the end of a remarkable journey - the completion of my MBA at NYU Stern. As I reflect on the lessons learned and memories created, it feels like an extraordinary tapestry of challenges, achievements, and transformations. I remember our first weekend when we were evacuated from classes due to an impending hurricane, demonstrating early that life is unpredictable and resilience is a key leadership trait. Unforgettable times were had traveling abroad in Madrid to understand global markets, baseball games at Nat's stadium, boat rides on the Potomac, and karaoke. All of these incredible and sometimes seemingly minute memories were rendered unforgettable thanks to amazing cohort of incredible individuals in my graduating class. Heartfelt thanks to Professors Bruce Buchanan for teaching us that business goes beyond profits; Tom Pugel for opening my eyes to the global economy; Phillip Schnabel and Anjolein Schmeits for insights into ow businesses create and demonstrate value; and Rohit Deo for illuminating the transformative power of AI and ML. To all my professors at Stern, you've left an indelible mark on my journey. Navigating the MBA while working full time, relocating, and adjusting to a new job has been a complex and challenging journey. Many nights of lost sleep and sacrificed leisure have paid off in priceless wisdom and resilience. But none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of my loving wife and family. To all those family events I missed, the late-night homework sessions when my presence was needed elsewhere - thank you for your understanding and endless support. This accomplishment isn't just a degree - it's a testament to the power of perseverance, teamwork, and a relentless thirst for knowledge. I'm excited about the next chapter, eager to leverage my learnings to drive positive change in the world.
