Ok LinkedIn, I need some advice. A colleague and I submitted an article to a special issue of a peer reviewed journal in. July 2022 It was accepted in November 2022. It went through copy editing and we were even given the issue # that our article would be in. Over the past year+, we have followed up numerous times with the editor. We even included the other editor named on the website in these follow ups. The website for this journal now says they aren’t accepting new submissions but our article was accepted months before that message was posted. The last contextual piece to share is that this was a COVID related project so at this point it’s likely it wouldn’t be accepted by other journals given how specific it was. What should I do? List it on my CV as “accepted” but never be able to reference an issue, volume, and/or page numbers? Do I put it as being “in press”? If so? How long can I leave it as “in press”? Do I leave it completely off my CV? Inquiring minds wants to know 🤔

Tips & tricks, the font you chose for your CV must be easy to read

On integrity and removing a paper from my CV. Someone asked me if I had ever removed a paper from my CV. I replied yes, and from my Google Scholar page, too. They asked why. Because I had lost confidence in the journal's editor. They then asked me which one. I replied - figure it out - you have a PhD. Behaving with integrity does not mean that one must stir pots in academic life. Life is too short to be in conflict over the small stuff. Save your bullets for the bigger fights to come. #academiclife

Happy World Poetry Day, everyone! 🎉✍️ Think of today as a dance, with each of us moving to the rhythm of enchanting words as we explore the magical intersection of poetry and recruitment. 📚✨ In the world of recruitment, it's all about those personal connections. 🤗 You see, every resume we come across tells a story—it's a personal anthem, rich with experiences, dreams, and incredible promise. We're not just on the hunt for skills; we're looking to discover the person behind the prose, someone whose life story harmonizes with our company's culture and future dreams. When crafting those job descriptions, why not channel our inner bards? Let's splash some color with our words and create a vibrant scene that calls out to that ideal candidate, making them feel like the role was written just for them! 🎨🌈 And when it comes to interviews, think of them as our very own live poetry sessions. Here, the exchange of words and gestures sets the stage for a meaningful dialogue. Every intentional question is our chance to delve deep, peeling back layers to reveal the candidate's core—much like poetry lays bare the human spirit. So here's a cheer to all the poets and recruiters out there! In both realms, we're in search of that perfect balance—between heartfelt expression and clear understanding, between feelings and function. Whether you're composing an ode or carving out a new career path, don't forget about the incredible connections that the right words can create. Let's keep on writing, keep on recruiting, and keep celebrating the wondrous world of opportunities that language opens up for us all. 🎇📝🌟 What is everyone's plan for World Poetry day? Let us know in the comments ⤵ #WorldPoetryDay #Recruitment #Connection

When you're a student, everyone tells you that science is the way it is. Just do your research. Don’t bash into the walls. Don’t go into risky directions. Try to have a nice CV. Get more papers. Enjoy it. But this is a very limited view. Science can be much bigger. Once you discover that everything in science was made by people that were not much smarter than you… You will realize that you do much better than hunting a big CV. You can influence science. You can make discoveries that others can use. Once you understand it all - this will be the most important discovery. You'll never be the same again. You’ll want to embrace it, change it, improve it. Make your mark upon it. You will stop thinking that “science is already there, and I’m just doing some research.” You'll want to change science and academia. You’ll want to make it better because it's messed up in a lot of ways. And because there is a huge room for new discoveries.

Head of Economics, Economics Tutor, Personal Statements Editor, UCAS Consultant, AQA and EdExcel Examiner, Oxbridge Mentor. Available for private tuition for Economics, Oxbridge and UCAS/Personal Statements.
Personal Statements are NOT a CV. Nor are they a list of 'stuff' you have read, essays completed or lectures attended. What they *should* be, are narratives in your voice, saying what you know, understand, refute or believe based on your experience. Why you are interested in the course you are applying to. Show how your reading has *shaped* the way you now think, highlight how the research you completed for competitions makes you a more original thinker. Try avoid saying 'I have read' and replace it with 'having read xyz book, I now understand abc, which is contrary to my reading of bla bla bla...as was discussed in my essay competition of bla bla bla.....'
