🌎 New on Dewey: Real estate climate risk assessment data from ClimateCheck available for #academicresearch! ClimateCheck empowers property buyers, owners, and brokers by exposing and quantifying the risks related to the climate crisis through proprietary risk assessment and reporting. Their U.S. Climate Risk data provides ratings for each hazard—heat, precipitation, drought, flooding, and fire—based on #climatechange projections through 2050. 🔗 Learn more about ClimateCheck or grab a free sample of their data at https://lnkd.in/dD9v35cw

Although currently centered on Alaska, the Pacific coast and states west of the Rocky Mountains, 6% of US counties could have material GDP exposure to pluvial flooding, or flooding caused by rainfall, by the 2050s — a number that rises to 60% of counties by the 2090s, with striking intensification in the South, Midwest and Northeast over this period. Quantifying the severity and type of climate physical risks a locality faces can help indicate whether its climate adaptation plans are commensurate with what hazards the area may face, and if enough funding is in place to help the area prepare. The fine-tuned First Street Foundation Precipitation Model reveals, “Approximately 17.7 million properties across the country are at substantial risk or greater (1-in-100-year risk or greater), which is 2.2 times more than the amount included in the FEMA 1-in-100 Special Flood Hazard Area designation.” Read more in this article. #climatechange #GREEN #ESG #engagement #realestate #investment #sustainability

Our mission at the Journal of Catastrophe Risk and Resilience is to open up routes of communication so we can find ways to overcome the current and future challenges facing society, in particular natural hazards and climate change - which is why we have made our research submission process nice and simple. If you are interested in submitting some new research to the Journal of Catastrophe Risk and Resilience on a variety of topics surrounding natural hazards, catastrophe risk, and the societal and institutional response to their management, then contact us today: https://lnkd.in/ecFB7vws #DiamondOpenAccess #ClimateChange #NaturalHazards

The impacts of climate change are seemingly all around us and will only be made worse by sea level rise. Urban flooding, extreme and more severe weather events, and unprecedented storm surges have forced us to rethink how to assess and properly manage existing and new developments in coastal and riparian areas. Will mitigation and resiliency measures be sufficient to allow these areas to adapt and thrive, and who will be most greatly impacted by the hazards and our management and planning decisions? This panel will address the specific challenges coastal and riparian communities face due to increased climate change impacts and which federal and/or state tools may be available to them to navigate this perilous new waterscape.
