Speaking at the Milken Institute Middle East and Africa Summit, our President and Group CEO, Hardy Pemhiwa outlined why Africa is such a compelling investment opportunity and the role digital infrastructure is playing as a key enabler of Africa’s future. He explained that Africa needs to be understood as a collection of 54 unique countries of varying sizes and diverse opportunities. With 60% of African GDP focused in just six countries, there are constellations of smaller economies surrounding each and feeding into and out them, creating opportunities for investors to scale quickly and do business in smaller markets while also servicing the broader continent. Our experience building 110,000km of fibre across borders and across the continent has proven it’s possible to run an African business at scale. This expansion of digital infrastructure across the continent and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement has created a compelling opportunity that’s hard for investors to ignore. However, while foreign investment is crucial, we’re increasingly seeing local capital providers able to play a complementary role and our approach has moved toward blended finance. With a tough global environment, it’s key that we grow our own capital in Africa and that we build the structure and platforms to harness that capital. Watch the full ‘Open for Business: Shaping the African Investment Story’ panel to hear Hardy speaking alongside peers from African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, Citigroup, Helios Partners and Prosper Africa: https://lnkd.in/exznbAqF #Africa #Investment #DigitalTransformation
