Dev Technology is excited to welcome our new group of interns this summer who will be helping support projects and company initiatives! We kicked off our summer intern events with a Networking 101 session led by Kendall Holbrook and hosted by the Denizens, Dev’s young professional group. The session covered networking strategies, connecting with mentors and industry leaders, and the group also participated in an interactive networking activity. We also welcomed the interns from Ventera to participate and network! Our interns also participated in an interactive introduction to agile methodology, where they learned about agile principles and put them to use in a team exercise building marble runs. And this week, we hosted an ice cream social with the interns and the Dev team for more networking and career development conversations.

Our Platform team (+ interns) took a break from building the future to battle it out on the bowling lanes. The stakes were high as we pitted PMs against Engineers in an epic showdown. 🎳 Who emerged victorious? 🏆 The competition was fierce, with strikes and spares flying left and right. Our PMs showed they can deliver more than just product roadmaps, while our Engineers proved they can crush more than just bugs. In the end... well, let's just say the winning team is already planning their victory lap around the office! 😉 Days like these remind us why we love what we do and who we do it with. Here's to many more strikes (the good kind) in our future, both on and off the lanes! More to come! Experienced Leader and Coach | Adept in Recruiting, Training, and Executing High-Impact Sales and Customer Service Initiatives Across Diverse Industries
Ah, let's gather 'round and have a jolly good chuckle at this peculiar Nextdoor situation, shall we? So, it seems like they're quite the fans of getting free hard work, huh? Bless their hearts! But seriously, folks, why do some companies struggle to grasp the concept of paying their summer interns? Now, listen, companies may wax poetic about these interns learning all sorts of valuable job skills, but let's not kid ourselves. We all know that many of these poor souls end up spending 8 to 10 hours a day being glorified coffee fetchers and errand runners. Not exactly the glamorous summer internship experience they had in mind, I'm sure! It's like the age-old tale of "Work Hard, Get Nothing." Why, oh why, is it so challenging for companies to understand that fair compensation is the name of the game? These interns deserve to be treated with respect and compensated for their hard graft. After all, they're putting in the effort to learn and contribute, so let's show them some love with a proper paycheck! So, Nextdoor, let's have a little heart-to-heart here. It's time to break free from the allure of free labor and embrace a more enlightened approach. Pay those summer interns what they deserve, and watch as their motivation soars to new heights! To all the companies out there, let's remember that internships should be a mutually beneficial experience. Don't be a Scrooge when it comes to compensating these young talents. Invest in them, and you'll see the rewards in their growth, enthusiasm, and dedication. Now, let's raise a cup of coffee (or tea, if that's your thing) to all the hardworking interns out there. May they find internships that value their time, effort, and potential. Cheers to a world where hard work is always rewarded, and fetching coffee becomes a thing of the past! Onward to a brighter and more equitable internship landscape!
Today is #NationalInternDay, meant to celebrate the world's future leaders - interns! At Nextdoor, we've been fortunate to have 20 interns in the neighborhood this summer working across software engineering and social impact. We are grateful for their contributions to the company, their natural curiosity, and of course their drive to help us cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on. We’re also thrilled to share that we made Yello.co and WayUp's Top 100 Internship Programs list for 2023. Check out the full list of winners here: https://nxdr.co/475M8el
