Inside of these buildings the High Voltage DC and AC equipment produce high electromagnetic fields which are not safe for human inspection. Therefore the doors remain locked while the equipment is in operation. These days it is increasingly difficult taking equipment out of service for inspections and maintenance. Therefore predictive repair and maintenace has a huge value for the industry, reducing to a minimum the down time. We are in the dawn of a new era, gathereing more experience and loads of data that in the future will allow the industry to take full advantage of more autonomous strategies for Operation, Maintenance and Repair.
🏴 You’ve heard of R2-D2, C-3PO and the Curiosity rover – but have you heard of the robot named after Scotland’s national dish? 🏫 ‘Haggis’ was named in a competition involving school pupils in Keith, who welcomed the robot to their school along with some of our staff. During the visits pupils were given the chance to operate Haggis and find out more about its activities. ⚡️ Currently deployed at SSEN Transmission’s high-voltage direct current (HVDC) switching station at Blackhillock near the Moray town, Haggis – otherwise known as EXTRM MK4.1 – is designed to monitor equipment between planned outages, reducing the possibility of disruption to the transmission network. ⚙️ Using a series of cameras and sensors including state-of-the-art visual, thermal, and acoustic imaging, the data it collects means staff can make informed decisions in relation to any future maintenance. ⚡️ Our video shows Haggis in action during a trial deployment at Noss Head switching station earlier this year. ➡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/e6axdW2Y Ross Robotics #autonomousrobots #innovation #Scotland

Thermal imaging is making its way into mainstream cars! With the U.S. Department of Transportation calling for better performance of emergency braking systems at night, thermal imaging is a game-changer for automotive safety. Not only is the price point reaching affordability, but it's also becoming more accessible to the masses. LightPath Technologies is leading the way by providing thermal imaging assemblies for automotive and has already been qualified by one of the largest automotive companies. Exciting times ahead for automotive safety. #infrared #automotive #safety #thermalimaging The 2024 Bentley Continental GT's thermal imaging camera is fascinatingly fun | Popular Science (popsci.com) https://lnkd.in/eFM2g9rh

In the August issue of Nonlinear Dynamics, prof. Gianpiero Mastinu, prof. Massimiliano Gobbi, prof. Previati Giorgio and prof. Fabio Della Rossa, in collaboration with Marco Fainello from Danisi Engineering, published a paper on the global stability of road vehicle motion with driver control. The team validated the results obtained with a simple vehicle-and-driver model by using a dynamic driving simulator with a complex vehicle model and human in the loop. #vehicledynamics #drivingsimulator #drismi #driverintheloop #humanbehaviour #drivingsafety

We are celebrating the first use of Cellular Vehicle to Everything (C-V2X) technology to request a green light for passenger vehicles on public US roads. The 'detector call' application, developed by Applied Information, for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDoT), designed to improve road safety by eliminating unnecessary stops at cross streets at night and to reduce the cost of installing and maintaining detection equipment such as radar, cameras and loops. We would like to extend our thanks and congratulations to all those involved in the development, implementation, and demonstration of this revolutionary technology at the recent TxDOT Connected Vehicle Innovation Summit in Houston, including Audi of America, HAAS Alert, and Paradigm Traffic Systems,Inc. Read the full article from ITS International Magazine below to find out how the technology works, and what industry leaders had to say about the technology: https://lnkd.in/eUFExeTj #safety #technology #thisisits #collaboration #innovation #development #intelligentsystems Brad Stertz Bryan Mulligan Texas Department of Transportation Jeremy Agulnek Steve Chiu

Research update! A recent study of Oliver Trepping from MdynamiX and IFM - Institut für Fahrerassistenz und vernetzte Mobilität explored the impact of cross-coupled Coriolis effects on motion sickness in automated driving. The findings suggest that stimuli with cross-coupled rotational components may influence motion sickness differently than translatory conditions. While the study acknowledges limitations in sample size and rotational velocities, it opens avenues for further investigation. Key considerations include the need for realistic simulator models and the potential influence of head movements. Stay tuned for advancements in understanding and addressing motion sickness challenges in automated vehicles! You can find the paper on this topic using the following link.
