🚗 Are Sofware Defined Vehicles safe? We're here at The Autonomous, in Vienna, and the topic of discussion on the main stage is the safety architectures for automated driving. 🔵 With SDVs, we're shifting the safety-critical responsibilities from humans to computing systems. This can be a good thing in many situations, but we need to have a failure-free system. 🔵 We're currently discussing the challenges this system needs to overcome, but let's take it a step forward. In a world where we have only SDVs on the road, who is policing them? Who will play the role of a digital witness? 🔵 Our CEO, Angelo Corsaro, has already addressed this topic a few months ago: "Autonomous car crashes can often be the result of erroneous perception of the environment, so examining car data can give some idea of the cause. But we need digital witnesses to help build a true reconstruction of the environment. The Zenoh protocol can help." Testing is an irreplaceable process in developing future mobility technology that works in real driving conditions. #Newsletter #September_Edition At Seosan Proving Ground (Seosan PG), our 14 test tracks and 4 test buildings consider every driving environment to develop products that boast optimal performance under the harshest conditions. This advanced testing facility verifies all core components of future mobility including technology for autonomous driving, V2X, electrification, and more. Within an expansive area that spans roughly 160 soccer fields, the High-Speed Track and the Turning Circle Test Track are 2 highlights of Seosan PG which ensure high-speed driving stability, brake performance, and Smart Cruise Control (SCC). The Tunnel Test Track and the Special Surface Road simulate various road conditions including diverse weather conditions to create products that are reliable in any season. To test autonomous driving tech, the Intelligent Transport System Track and Radar Test Track replicate real road environments and put our radars and cameras to the test. Seosan PG is how we double-check our work before the rubber meets the road, and continue to lead the global market for autonomous driving technology. On behalf of Pavement Management Services, I’m thrilled to be part of the ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo in the heart of California! This event has been an absolute eye-opener, giving me the chance to connect with some of the brightest minds in the industry. Networking with experts and enthusiasts has been such a valuable experience – from engaging conversations about cutting-edge technology to discussions about the future of mobility. Some of the most fascinating presentations brought up topics about the development of a collision avoidance bus system with advanced radar and camera technology, and the latest approaches to optimise the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles through combining data, verification and human personas. Another presentation discussed how to model and quantify surprising human behaviours within complex environments like road traffic, in order to improve traffic safety. Overall, the industry insights shared by thought leaders have shed a great light on the latest advancements in safety and autonomy, and how these innovative ideas are shaping the future of transportation. I’ve included some of the most interesting slides are below. Arash P. Jirandehi, PhD Mario Henrique Cruz Torres #ADASExpo #AutonomousVehicles #Innovation #Networking #pavementmanagementservices

Alliance Innovation Lab to speak on Cooperative Congestion Management - Santa Clara Convention Center, September 20 💫 Traffic congestion is a major issue in many urban areas, resulting in increased travel times, air pollution, and economic costs. Congestion management is critical to improving traffic flow, but traditional approaches based on central control and infrastructure investments have limitations. Cooperative congestion management control is a promising new approach that optimizes traffic flow by coordinating driving speeds of connected and automated vehicles. Using a recurrent bottleneck on I-680 as a case study, Fang-Chieh Jerry Chou, Researcher at Alliance Innovation Lab ( Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi) will explore the key concepts, benefits, and challenges of the system during a presentation on Day 1 of ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo California (September 20 & 21). Hear from Fang-Chieh Jerry Chou during the conference session, Strategies, innovations and requirements for the safe deployment of ADAS and autonomous technologies.
