The #truckingindustry has faced an increase in #cargothefts this year, with thieves developing more sophisticated and strategic tactics. Verisk Analytics’ CargoNet in a second-quarter report released July 18 found that "supply chain risk events" increased 57% year-over-year, with 582 reported incidents across North America. This accounted for over $44 million in stolen shipments. The report noted that much of the increase was attributable to a type of strategic approach known as shipment misdirection attacks. #OrganizedRetailCrime

According to cargo security company Overhaul, there were 38% more cargo thefts in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same timeframe last year. Nearly half of those were from warehouses and distribution centers, with an average loss of more than $210,000 per theft. What's even more concerning, though, is that the people committing these crimes are finding faster and more efficient ways to steal cargo. https://buff.ly/4cLTPsd #supplychain #logistics #cscmp
