"Why have you chosen to pivot into healthcare?" One of the greatest privileges I enjoy in Adopt-A-Doc is the opportunity to speak to a wide range of healthtech #founders. To note, over 90% of these founders come from a technical or commercial background - rather than clinical. One of the first questions that I always ask is: Now bear in mind, many of these founders have actually left jobs that were: - In stable industries, - Very well compensated, - In larger, multinational corporations, ๐ To foray in healthcare which has its own sets of challenges. _______________________________ I have heard many great stories. They range from: - A personal or family experience with illness, and the deep dissatisfaction that came from it. - A desire to make things better having seen first hand how prevalent ill health is. - A strong motivation to use their skill set to build something impactful. A successful #innovation scaled widely can help thousands, if not millions of people. _____________________________ I believe that #healthcare attracts people who are trying to help. It is the one reason why I am still hopeful about healthcare. Because there are brilliant innovators from all walks of life coming together to work on this important problem. Probably not, because if so, we would have already done it. Also unlikely, because healthcare is genuinely complex and care delivery is heavily reliant on healthcare professionals. ๐ค ______________________________ Healthcare Innovation is ultimately a team sport. And I am happy to be able to help founders tackle this behemoth, to the best of my abilities. A Friday toast to the people working hard to make healthcare better. Dora Jambor | Ishtar Govia | Craig Coulton | Nikos Ioannou | Ben Davies | Claire Brannigan | Nara Moripen | Thibaut Briere | Ula Rustamova
So true Dr. Zhong Wei Khor Two hands to clap
making a difference! You've summarised it well.
That's very true, useful and actionable innovation will come from collaboration
Healthcare efficiency has affected my life and the lives of those close to me, and I think most people have similar stories. The reason is that few sectors shape societies as profoundly as healthcare does. There's immense pressure on healthcare systems to deliver universally accessible services. Using my skills to help with that is a privilege.
Definitely a team sport and non health founders need help to navigate the healthcare system - or potential innovations cannot develop. Grateful to have the support and guidance from yourselves ๐
Superb post!
Dr. Zhong Wei Khor thanks for the mention. I attended a friends funeral today. A young man kidnapped by cancer and seeing the life changing impact on his family will stick with me. Disease is cruel. I know. My calling is to help people suffering with a disease and our work at GeneHub will contribute something positive. Afterall, weโre not here forever, so make the most of your time and spend it with good people.
This resonates deeply with me as someone passionate about improving patient care through innovation in healthcare. I admire your dedication to supporting health tech founders navigating this challenging industry. Healthcare attracts those driven by a genuine desire to make a meaningful impact, and your insights into their motivations are inspiring! We need to work together in healthcare innovation, and I'm totally on board with your optimism about the future! ๐
Great post! In medicine, we use MDTs (Multidisciplinary Teams) to bring different perspectives when making clinical decisions for patients. Why can't we apply this multidisciplinary approach to finding solutions? It would ensure changes are both medically sound and practically implementable, driving forward impactful advancements in healthcare.

2moIn my case it was impossible not to do something in healthcare, due to my personal experience. I agree that sometimes itโs easier to see problems from the outside, and I think non-clinical founders like myself are definitely naive when it comes to healthcare innovation. Which might be necessary since otherwise I doubt we would have chosen healthcare in the first place ๐ Luckily there are tons of innovative clinicians that can work with us to also solve the problems from the inside ๐๐ผ
