Gamification is a data game. It is not about the game, but about the outcome. What will enhance the retail experience for the consumer and just as important, how can staff be trained on a continuous basis, and still be engaged. Gaming mechanisms are not magic, but used wisely are very effective, also over the longer term. Mindgame is venturing into the ongoing training of retail staff next, to increase effectiveness, learning experience AND, very importantly, the increase of tenure. We will keep you posted

Gamification should be used by professionals. If the only two factors under consideration are 'fun' and 'competition' then you do not grasp the potential and the strength of gaming mechanisms. Yes these can be factors and fun is a key element, but there is so much more available, also very much depending on the desired result. I would invite the writer to a conversation on what is possible and make sure that one does not throw out the baby with the bathwater.
