A new survey reveals that 59% of your customers/readers are worried about whether your digital content is real or AI-generated. And this is with a relatively low AI-awareness of 56% in the UK. With awareness this low, it’s fair to say that worries are only going to increase. Ultimately, I think we’ll end up in a scenario where publishers will need to clearly label AI-generated content—or work with a human instead. 🤷🏽♂️ If you’re looking for content from the latter, please check out my latest work (link in comments).

What made Blair Witch Project a hit, and Blair Witch 2 a flop? Content success is extremely unpredictable, here are the implications for publishers 👇 In publishing, this unpredictability can lead to a strategy of ‘spray and pray’, which is only going to be exacerbated by AI, since it allows anyone to publish heaps of articles in a short space of time. However, by nature of how AI works, the content it creates is often just a regurgitation of existing reporting and facts that readers will not reward with their attention, or wallet. I believe that in the next few years, readers will put a premium on deeply researched content, created by real humans, presented in publications with strong brand values. Publishers and platforms are already starting to adjust and double down on quality content. One of them is The New York Times, which recently unveiled "enhanced bios" that offer an insight into each reporter's background, approach and location. The goal is to instil credibility and trustworthiness, and establish a point of difference from lower quality content. Apple News now requires publishers to disclose whether their content was generated by AI Large Language Models can't replicate the shoe-leather reporting that journalists around the world conduct every day, work that sheds light on the unknown, and generates new insights and facts. The opportunity for publishers is that Apple News, with its 145 million users, is hungry for pieces exactly like this: original content produced by humans. Here at FlatPlan, we do more than get your content on this platform - we make sure that if you’re investing the time into quality journalism, your articles will get the attention and impact they deserve.
