📣 On this day sixty-five years ago (27 July 1959) our Department was established under the Ministers and Secretaries (Amendment) Act 1959. It was during the 16th Dáil that the Department of Transport and Power was set up with Erskine Childers appointed as Minister. 🤝 Thekla Beere was appointed as the Secretary of the Department in that year, making it the first Government Department to be led by a woman. 📜 In the past 65 years, the Department has had eleven name changes and twenty-five different Ministers with three of them serving for more than one term.
