Department of Transport and Planning’s Post

Australia has one of the largest shipping tasks in the world with over 99% of our international trade carried by sea. Victorians are dependent on global shipping and the seafarers who work in this industry. The Victorian Government is stepping up to support the seafarers who keep our world moving. Long stretches away from family and friends can take a toll. That’s why we're introducing Wi-Fi access and mental health and wellbeing support programs in the Ports of Melbourne, Geelong, Hastings, and Portland. Seafarers can stay connected with loved ones and get support while in port. We know their jobs are tough, this is our way of making it a bit easier. This is wonderful to read Department of Transport and Planning The 1000s of seafarers (as well as their families and friends) visiting ports each week, where WiFi access is provided at each berth are so incredibly grateful for this crucial connectivity (that many of us living shoreside couldn’t live without!), that provides them a means of communication, support, banking, downloading audio books, movies while they’re in port and readies them for the next voyage where there is too often limited access to free internet. 👌

This is a good initiative and well done but why don’t you work on freeing the ports up and the process up so Victorian business can survive, we are forced to go to Adelaide so we don’t pay waiting fees
