The prison-to-homelessness pipeline is a national problem, but we know our community has the solutions. As of today, organizations across the country can apply for up to $140,000 in funding along with training and technical assistance to refine or scale their reentry housing programs through our newest initiative, the National Housing Incubator. Escambia County is a great place to retire, to raise a family, to start a business and to enjoy parks, beaches and playgrounds. However, it's not so great if you want a quality education for your children, according to the 2023 Escambia County Quality of Life Survey results. In terms of #education, negative responses have outweighed positive responses in all 15 years of the survey, with annual results averaging out to about 34% positive and 64% negative. The best year for the school district was 2010, when 40% of respondents were positive on quality of education and 54% were negative. And the worst year? 2023, when an overwhelming 72% percent of responses were negative and just 20% were positive. Join us for the full roll-out of the 2023 results, presented by Pensacola Young Professionals at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the REX Theatre in downtown Pensacola. The presentation can also be viewed live on the Pensacola News Journal Facebook page. Register for free here: https://bit.ly/3ZmRG0q Hit the link to read the full article: https://bit.ly/46Rh80F

What prevents a lot of kids from walking or biking to school is paranoid parents. Statistically a child is more likely to be harmed in a car accident OTW to school, or breathing emissions while waiting in the pickup area than they are from being kidnapped or molested. (They are also statistically in more danger online. And likely to become nearsighted by too much screen time!) I wonder how many parents fancy themselves environmentally aware, yet drive their kids? Let them walk or bike! Teach them independence and self sufficiency. And if you insist on driving, please for the sake of the future , park you car and turn off your engine! Do not IDLE!!
Exciting news!! The BFCOG is currently in the process of developing a Benton-Franklin Regional Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Action Plan! The plan will be utilized to identify SAFE, EASY, & FUN routes for children and parents that walk or roll to school throughout our region. The BFCOG is requesting that community members actively participate throughout the development process of this plan, as it helps us and a key stakeholders understand current travel methods, current travel barriers, and incorporate recommendations made for areas that may need improvement. Below is a link to our quick survey, which will also be available on our website by Monday! https://lnkd.in/gSAyrS-t
