Scouting is about people and more specifically developing young people to become the kind of people we want in our neighborhoods, companies, and leadership positions. When you hear Alex’s story, you can understand how powerful Scouting can be. The impact expands far beyond the Troop!
Each year at the Sam Houston Area Council Sports breakfast, we highlight the impact and importance of Scouting through the lens of one of our members. This year the Sports Breakfast featured Alejandro (Alex) Bayon-Barrera who delivered an emotional and impactful story of how he and his Eagle Scout Service Project changed the world. When you hear this story, it will both evoke emotion and inspire you. Scouting is changing the world one young person at a time. We are proud to share that Alejandro has been named the National Service Territory 7 recipient of the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award for 2023. Sometimes, what got you there won't get you where you want to go. Good advice in business, and good advice in going for it on 4th down. So, now the teams are set and I've picked my team for the Big Game. Here's some more good advice: Send in your nomination for this week's Nice Guy/Gal Awards. Every Friday, I’ll share nominations for people who have been identified as nice guys (and gals). If you want to nominate someone, just shoot me a private message by 5:00 EDT this Thursday. There are only 3 requirements: 1) you have to be connected to the person you nominate 2) you can only nominate one person per week 3) you can’t nominate yourself 😀 If you want to provide a brief reason for your selection, that’s great, but it’s not a requirement. Let’s recognize people who make a difference simply by being nice. Have a great day, everyone. https://lnkd.in/eY55XpTq #network #sportsbiz #people #niceguy #networking #sportsmarketing

Guess what day it is? National High Five Day! Yes, it’s real. 🙌 In honor of the only day that celebrates slapping hands together in mid-air, let’s acknowledge the high five. It’s not just for sports wins or sealing questionable decisions; it’s a universal way to say, “Hey, we did a thing,” without the need for pesky words. ✨ So, whether you’re celebrating a small victory or just made it through another Zoom call without falling asleep, give yourself a high five. Or better yet, awkwardly attempt a virtual one that doesn’t quite land. It’s the thought that counts, right? 🤚💥 Let's raise those hands not just for achievements, but because we can. Happy National High Five Day! May your palms be ever ready and your timing impeccable. #NationalHighFiveDay #EZMarketing

Patience and perseverance is grossly underestimated! Extremely smart and intelligent team members tend to loose the initial value they bring when they dont have these two qualities and averagely smart team members with little or no skills, but with a high level of patience, perseverance and commitment to growing tend to acquire all the skills and intelligence they need and become extremely valuable to a team over time! Patience and perseverance is grossly underestimated! Always better to Play the long term game!
Found this video and it made me want to share this reminder. There is no such thing as overnight success. Everyone you see thriving today has invested countless hours to hone their skills and sharpen their craft. Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam in 1999 after playing professionally for five years. If she had given up in her second year, she wouldn’t be the icon she is today. Play the long game.

You can't even consider living in Chicago without having some baseline knowledge about sports, even if it's just enough to apologize that you don't follow sports. Interestingly, real estate is relevant to this experience, because no matter where you land, you'll find yourself on the opposite side of some friend or colleague's preference for a north or south side team. Cheer for the wrong team in the bleachers or use ketchup in an irresponsible manner, and you can get you in a whole mess of trouble. For pro tips on how to navigate these concerns as you search for your next Chicago home, I'm here to help. For pro tips on how to fully rob the south side of a grand slam, check out my best friend's smooth operation in the clip here. https://lnkd.in/gGXxC5fB

If you had a rough start to your day, here's a tip: Chop the day into 4 quarters. Just like any good sports team, you gotta know it's not how you start, but how you finish. Just because I stunk in the 1st quarter, doesn't mean I can't make up for it later in the day. This is how I think about it: I'm awake ~16 hours per day. That's 4 separate 4-hour quarters. If my 1st quarter stunk, that's OK. Still plenty of time left. Sometimes it just takes one good quarter of the day to make it a major win. So if you had a rough start... There's 3 more quarters in the day for you to come back.
